Supreme Court Justice Kennedy to Retire

Why? 50 years ago this guy would have been confirmed 98-2.

25 years ago he still probably would have been confirmed (see Clarence Thomas)

The bottom line is our elected leaders (most likely) prevented an unqualified person from an appointed, life-time position.

Hell, for once they're doing what we pay them for.
I think it's a bad look that he still has the political backing of the GOP and even now seems more likely than not to be confirmed.

For sure, I agree that this whole sordid affair is a bad look for us.

Its a bad look, but only to those who are looking.
Many people dont know about this whole thing and many people who do know about it dont care.

This whole situation is an absolute travesty. Regardless of what may or may not have transpired between Kavanaugh and these accusations, the Democrats who had this information months ago should be banned from Washington forever for waiting to bring out this information. Whether he gets appointed or not, Kavanaugh should not be a judge if he truly did these acts. The Democrats holding this information in the hopes that it helps their party in upcoming elections is downright despicable.

Overall, I think Kavanaugh shouldn't be appointed. Scrap him as a way to even out the Garland situation a few years ago. When Trump nominates the next candidate, no games from either side please.

Why are republicans hung up on “process?”

If my house catches on fire and a neighbor I dislike rushes in and saves my animals, I’m not going to whine and question how they saved my animals.

Shouldn’t republicans be grateful that a sexual predator with a temper has been flagged for investigation?

At the end of the day, what’s right? Is kavanaugh really a person we want on the Supreme Court?

Having anxiety about an activity =//= not being able to do that activity. Anxiety can vary in severity based on any number of factors as well. Thats a really weak attempt to discredit someone's credibility.

Donald trump is a germaphobe. But that hasn’t stopped him from having unprotected sex with porn stars.

I don’t understand why republicans are hung up on Ford’s fear of flying. You can have a fear/dislike/anxiety of something and still do it because the long-term benefit is there.

The original statement BP made was that Feinstein's actions dragged this country through the mud. That's what Fish responded to, and your response read to me as a rebuttal of that. Sorry if I misread you.
Not me! That was someone else.

Another day another Kavanaugh lie exposed.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna915566?

In the days leading up to a public allegation that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh exposed himself to a college classmate, the judge and his team were communicating behind the scenes with friends to refute the claim, according to text messages obtained by NBC News...

...Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee under oath that the first time he heard of his former Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez’s allegation that he exposed himself to her in college was in a Sept. 23 article in The New Yorker.

That and the various accounts of him being a sloppy mean drunk, when he claims otherwise in my opinion mean he's DQ'd.

Can we just move on to the next nominee already? Trump will get his justice, it just shouldn't be Kavanaugh.

But but but you’re a man and aren’t you worried now that some random woman might accuse you of assault? Aren’t you scared to death for your children who might be accused of assault by an angry, jealous, or delusional woman? We cant not avoid confirming kavanaugh cuz reasons. We must confirm him or all women are going to accuse us of sexual assault until we all are enslaved

Same story good video:

Considering his role on Ken Starr's investigation of Bill Clinton, it would be wonderfully ironic if Kavanaugh's dishonesty under oath while facing questions of sexual impropriety is what does him in.

Hmmmm. If this is all just a last minute left wing smear job why was Brett trying to find ways to discredit Ramirez back in July? From that same NBC article:

Further, the texts show Kavanaugh may need to be questioned about how far back he anticipated that Ramirez would air allegations against him. Berchem says in her memo that Kavanaugh “and/or” his friends “may have initiated an anticipatory narrative” as early as July to “conceal or discredit” Ramirez.

I had a friend who I had known since I was 2 years old. We lived next door to each other for about 10 years. He started partying with a bunch of date raping frat boy wannabes in high school. I partied with them several times, and they were slimy, but the end of it for me was when before a party one night a couple of them talked about taking turns on a girl I introduced to the group who I had known since middle school and for whom I knew this had been her first sexual experience. After the douchebag was done telling his story he looked at me, and I guess my facial expression gave away the fact that I was absolutely sick to my stomach. He said "What? You don't think that's funny?" I looked at him and said, "No, I don't. I think it's sad." I left and didn't talk to my lifelong friend much at all and never spent time with him or them again. He was in love with his cool new group of friends.

Anyway, I hope Kavanaugh gets what he deserves.

If only the author of this read the entire excerpt from the SJC.

I’m trying to post the pictures, but it’s not working.

Basically, they asked if Kavanaugh had ever heard discussion about the incident matching the description of Ramirez. He said no. Important that they asked “matching the description”. He also said later, this very same day, in the very same “interview”, under oath, that his friends had made him aware that Ramirez was calling around looking for dirt on him. That’s the reason we know she couldn’t remember if it was Kavanaugh or not.

So no, he didn’t lie. The news just didn’t do their job and research a little.

TL/DR: Kavanaugh knew Ramirez was calling around about him, he didn’t know the specific story she was talking about. Testified all of this on the same day, NBCNews only reported on part of it.

Here’s the twitter thread on it.

/trigger warning: the author is a conservative so most of you probably won’t agree with what he says

So I took a look and the transcript indicates that Kavanaugh was generally aware of Ramirez calling around to friends, the NBC article says 'the judge and his team were communicating behind the scenes with friends to refute the claim, according to text messages obtained by NBC News.' That reads to me as though the texts are regarding a specific refutation of Ramirez claims. Claims which Kavanaugh claimed to have no prior knowledge of prior to the story coming out in late September.
