Dante Exum - point guard ?!?!

I know a lot don’t think he’s PG material but I’ve thought with time he’s a combo guard who does have some passing potential and vision. ( with time and experience ) Recent games give a little hope for this.

Thoughts ?

I thought he looked great, to be honest. I was at the game. Only that one bad pass, but how many did Rubio have tonight? He can get to the rim at will and is great at ooping the ball, plus he plays stellar defense. I think he's the PG of the future. If he gets an outside shot, he could be elite.

He's always been a PG. He's an explosive, quick, lengthy point guard with good court vision, shaky confidence and a terrible shot. Where that puts him in the league at the moment is as a serviceable but unreliable backup.

His future hinges on health, how his confidence changes, and whether he can improve his shot. His ceiling is still very high, but my fear is he'll end up like Burks where injuries delay his progress and he never quite "gets it". For example, Burks really needed to evolve his game somehow to become a great player and he just never did. Impossible to tell if Exum is going to go that route.

Quin Snyder changed the rotation a bit and Exum started sharing the floor with another playmaker in Joe Ingles.
This tweak was to address infamous 2nd quarters when Utah went scoreless for 10+ possessions such as @SAS
and it worked out well so far and benefited both X and Jingles.

I think he has always been a point guard. Not a totally multiskilled one, but a point guard nonetheless. His best traits are all point guardy traits. Capable of taking his direct opponent off the dribble, penetrate deep, at times finish around the rim and make decent decisions when distributing, decent at finding the rolling man with lobs, a guy who can stay infront of speedy opponents and not get totally blown away when being switched onto bigger opponents.

The more I watch him the more I wish he could at least hit a free throw lineup pull up. Would take so much pressure off the rest of his offensive game.

Definitely doesn't have the ceiling I had dreamt of, but I am confident he can be a borderline starter moving forward.

I believe I made a similar post on here and was ridiculed by some Aussie Homer's. Weird

Meh.

Watch Ricky run an offense and then watch Exum. Night and day. Oh yeah, and then there’s the numbers. Exum’s are absolutely God awful.

Don’t want it.

I think a key part of being a PG is being able to handle ball pressure and not let it affect your game.

I'm not sure Exum can do that.

He can drive and kick well enough though. Exum's PG development was really nerfed by the injuries, so maybe he still has room to grow there.

He needs more reps and the ability to get into the offense a little quicker if he's going to be the point. If he isn't attacking he looks a little lost and dribbles out a lot of clock, forcing some bad possessions. The more he search dribbles, the more likely he is to turn it over. I think as he becomes more and more confident he will see things developing quicker and move the ball better. (When I say think, I really mean hope.)

I still loathe you with an unremitting passion.

Not to discount old mate but there is a bloke out of Memphis who played out of Orlando, Florida that might be useful too.
Not sure how that helps.

Exum typically looks great when he shares the floor with so many shooters that defenses give him a wide open lane. Exum-Korver-Ingles-Jae-Udoh worked well. So did the 4th q lineups with Favors, no Gobert, Mitchell and two shooters at all times.

What about Dennis Smith
Any interest in him
Would be expensive probably
What could Jazz offer

Barbosa could finish.
He was finishing last night. He also doesn't get calls that he should. He's getting stronger though and I think that will help him finish more often. I will say it here and now that if he doesn't get injured again, he will eventually be better than Ricky. We've invested a lot in him and he's still young so let's not give up now. Burks is four years older.
