2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Yeah but Paul is better and stronger than Conley. And how much taller is James harden than Donovan. U can have one small player in the lineup. If you have 2 u will get destroyed
DM isn't small. His monstrous winspan allows him to defend multiple positions. He only struggles vs freaks like Durant and Giannis.

But Conley isn't that good though

He is currently averaging 20.2 points to go along with 6.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds while averaging 35.9% on 3s in 51 games this season. That's pretty good by any measurable standard. You're just trolling at this point and you know it.

Why are Memphis so bad then

All I'm saying is with Conley and Mitchell in the backcourt. The other teams will eat them on offense

Ask Memphis. Conley is clearly holding his own at his position.
I don't respond to who you are replying to but strictly to counter the "then why is MEM so bad" comment a good counter would also be; I guess that means AD is overrated trash as well cause look at NOP under performing record this year and most of his entire career.

You could essentially run a 3 guard rotation of Conley/Mitchell/Exum in the playoffs if you're worried about the size discrepency on the defense end, since the flaws in Exum's game are covered up by Conley and Mitchell's offensive prowess while Exum gives the Jazz the length and size at the guard spots to guard bigger guys like Harden. You could probably also get away with a 3 guard lineup against a team like the Rockets if they go super small and have Exum on Harden, Conley on CP3, and Mitchell guarding whoever the wing shooter they have.

Realistically speaking the main reason why Exum didn't play as much as he probably should have in the playoffs last year was because he coughed the ball up seemingly every possession, which was a shame because he was quite clearly a difference maker defensively when he was tasked with guarding Harden. If he can play the way he was prior to the injury on the offensive end while providing the elite man on man defense he can bring then I think he's a key bench piece for the Jazz going into the playoffs and just as important as Crowder off the bench.

I don’t understand Memphis.... you’re probably going to lose Gasol for nothing in the offseason, yet you expect the world back for him and Conley? Just trade them both for whatever assets you can get and start over. That’s going to be a massive rebuild.

Dante is no bench player trade him and favors to a team where they will start together

I like the idea of keeping Dante, throwing in guys like Thabo, Ekpe, and Niang, and then going hard after some of the guys that are going to get bought out.

I think they have to have something to point at and say "look what we got for them". Those two are basically Memphis basketball... last members of Grit and Grind. So it's complex on their end....

That said... doesn't mean us or anyone else should part with more than is fair. Can help them save a little face to make the transition easier, but they were the ones that basically announced its over and they would be moved... so they don't have a lot of leverage imo.

I think Gasol opting into his player option is all but guaranteed at this point. Lots of money for a guy his age to turn down when there isn't really a market for Cs right now.
