2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

So throw in two 2nds. Three, **** it.

Seriously. What the ****’s the difference? We don’t use them anyway and this is going toward a legit asset we’re locked into for three more years.

Our offer is fair... The difference is offering more puts more hamstrings on us... I'm not forcing a deal here... we are fine whether we make a move or not imo.

So MEM rejected TOR's offer for Conley and Gasol.
I think there must be at least a couple more teams that are after Conley besides DET, UTA and TOR.
Unbeknown to some people he's pretty good, even with that contract, age and injury history.

The biggest hamstrings it puts on us is it shows our current studs we won’t go the extra mile to REALLY upgrade when we can and it puts us in a shaky situation at the 1 this off-season.

Get Conley and then try to maneuver cap room for an upgrade at the 4 this summer or by next trade deadline.

What hamstrings does offering more 2nds put on us?

We got a rotation player for a couple seconds... Not having those will hurt us trying to fill in the gaps on other trades.

We will have traded a first, lost cap flexibility for a couple years, and then we add in the extra seconds... I know it's a minor asset, but it further limits what we can do on the fringes. I don't think it moves the needle either.

I’m not worried about small gaps or rotation players. I’m worried about getting a legit 2nd/3rd option. Conley is that.

Conley-Exum
Mitchell-Korver
Ingles-O’Neale
Favors-Crowder
Gobert

Seriously, the gaps in that team are barely noticeable.

Durant goes to NY. Cousins bounces or stays and infects the Dubs.

Get Conley and we win it all next year.

If Conley is your best bet at a big 3, might as well blow it up and start over. Build around Mitchell.

Before the Warriors came around a team with that much talent would have been taken very seriously as championship contenders. People say you need three stars, well it's not perfect but we'd have it. That's pretty cool. And Gobert is so perfect as one of the three because he hardly touches the ball and still has a huge impact.

Any idea of competing is connected to GSW falling apart. It's either gonna happen or it's not, but if it does I would hope we are in position to strike.

I don’t think the Jazz are trying to build a big 3. I think they want Gobert and Ingles as 4th/5th options on offense. It’s more about finding a 2nd and third option that will help what we already have. Rubio pretty clearly isn’t that guy, they know they’re going to get outbid for Ricky in the offseason, so DL is trying to give up marginal assets to get better and get something out of Ricky’s contract.

Conley + Niko puts us where we need to be. The rest is solid role players, and we will have MLE.

I don't think additional seconds move the needle much. So you don't throw them out there for the hell of it. If they came to us and said "cool we want two additional seconds" then you probably still do it. We have other shots at the 3rd guy... don't have to push all in on a max salary guy, that is on the wrong side of 30, and has had foot problems for much of his career.

We’re not getting a legit asset this off-season. People need to get this fairy tale out of their head.

There’s going to be a bidding war for Ricky?

If we don’t end up trading him, then we clearly have the inside track to re-signing him.

Why do they want both?

If Favors can be good next to Gobert some, I think he can be good next to Gasol. Also, Charlotte has zero good big men. And lastly, Gobert is playing 34 minutes per game. Gasol should probably be only playing about 28-30. So if they can share the court a little then rotate the 48 C minutes, they could help Charlotte come playoff time.

Regardless, Favors and Gasol is an upgrade over Biyombo and Marvin by a long shot.
