2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

To me, it is perfectly understandable that DL does not want to trade Exum. If we ever are to compete for a championship, we are 100% dependent on another star-level guy. We know we won`t get any in free agency and we don`t have enough assets to prove for a proven star. As this team in constructed, Dante Exum is the only player with the psysichal tool to develop into that 3rd star. I think there might be something like 30% percent chance that he develops into a solid starter and maybe a 10% chance of him becoming our 3rd star. Realistically, Exum is our best chance of ever competing, as sad as that is to write.

On the same note, I`d take a flyer on Fultz if he is available for a first. If he gives us another 10% chance of getting a star, we would have doubled the odds of finding our 3rd guy.
The chance of landing a star in free agency > the chance Exum becomes a star

And the dude’s salary is in the way of that, so...

I don't understand why anyone would want Conley after it has been repeatedly reported he doesn't want to be here. It will turn into a situation where he has a "toe" injury, or something similar and sits out multiple games or plays with disinterest and becomes a locker room issue. Let it be and roll with the guys who want to be here. At least we lose with a little passion and desire on the court.

I agree - if this is true (and it appears it is) I think The Jazz should pull the plug on this one and look elsewhere.

F' him if he doesn't want to come to Utah.

I'm thinking it's going to be an explosion of trades soon. This feels like the first year in many years where the contenders are a bit more wide open with GSW looking mortal and the East a total dogfight.
GS isn't mortal. They look it either. Aren't they on a huge winning streak right now? I think they beat the Spurs by like 40 last night

No one is beating a healthy warriors team in the playoffs.

Why do people believe that Saric is available? Why would the Wolves just trade him and his Niang-like salary? He was the cherry of the Butler trade. I mean if we are speculating on people that aren't available, might as well be slotting Glannis as our power forward. . .

Jazz should not trade first round picks unless they get something that has real chance to move them forward. IMHO Mirotic (or Saric if the guy's available) does not check.

Here's my biggest beef: we have a lottery ticket. There's a possibility it could be a winner. If we walk out of the gas station and someone offers us $100 for the lottery ticket, we rebuff them because, hey, this could be the winner. Never mind that we could go in and buy 100 more lottery tickets, it's possible that that ticket is the winner. I feel like we get attached to our assets and don't value them rationally.

Rockets pushed them to 7 last year and were up 3-2 on them. If Paul doesn't get injured, watch out.

I'm not saying I would bet against GSW, but it can be done.

He’s coming off the bench, isn’t thriving, seems to have some fit issues, ...

You’d give up a first for what could end up as 30 games of Mirotic, though?

I'm sure Utah is capable of discussing other trades.

Utah isnt going to trade a first for Mitotic, regardless of any outcome with Conley.

I always wonder about philosophies like this...”Utah won’t trade a first...”

With Mitchell and Gobert, where does that first most likely end up? In the 20’s. What are the odds of getting a rotation player there, let alone a starter who has a skill set and size like Mirotic?

I’d bet less than 5%.

Yet a first in the 20’s is a dealbreaker.

That’s just...dumb.

Look, I have $250,000 in one hand, but I’m going to give it back so I can have one lottery ticket that has a minuscule shot at winning 10 million, but I’ll probably be left with nothing.

Smh. Late first round picks are worthless. Always take the player.

Teague is a worse/equally bad get as Reggie Jackson.

They barely even play Saric and he's a bad fit with KAT. You might be right though, but taking back bad contracts is a no-no.

I think Teague is on the level as a player but the maturity stuff that comes along with Jackson is rough.

Part of the value in getting Saric would be his low cap amount... taking on contracts to makeup the value is probably not good... was spit balling more than anything. He’s worth more than a first... not sure how to makeup that value to get them some urgency.

LOL at the people bitching that we have "wasted all of our assets!" then insisting that we trade a first for Mirotic.

I don’t think trading a Grayson Allen or a Scott Padgett or a Eric Maynor or a Koufos for Mirotic is a waste.

Covington was a bigger get... Saric is coming off the bench playing like 20 minutes a night... not sure he is a fit with KAT... I think maybe comparing him to an mvp candidate is just a touch of exaggeration fella.

The jazz have ONE target, and ONE price. Can't deviate. Happy to stay mediocre if they can't get they one guy at that one price. smfh

DL does get tunnel vision with the draft and apparently trades now. Could be good... we get the guys we want... could be bad... we let opportunists pass us by.

Yeah, take a player with multiple years left or package the pick to get a really good player. No reason to trade a first to get a guy you can sign in the off season.

Every move forward comes at a cost. We, as fans, always look at that cost as a negative, or an opportunity cost. As YB always said, flexibility can’t dribble a basketball.
