2011 Fiba EuroBasket - Turkey

With the lockout on it's way in a few hours, I can not wait to watch the 2011 Fiba EuroBasket tournament coming up. More specifically to watch Kanter and Turkey win a lot of games and Kanter to prove to everyone that he should have been the #1 pick in the draft.

or how we should have taken Knight over Kanter because we always draft white Euros and won't ever stop doing it.

True. White Euros suck, and only black U.S. citizens win championships. It's about time someone takes a stand on this board and points this out. Effing white, Mormony Utah Jazz that are based in a city with no night life and never stop being racist! Nice job, man.

Turks and FIBA think differently though

It's all rather trivial, but if we're going there, it doesn't matter what they think. Turkey is not Europe if you believe in the even more trivial geographic definition.

Technically speaking UK isn't part of the continent so yes. But what happened to Sweden and Norway?

You are aware of how stupid you sound right. You do know that two or three other teams picked white Euros over knight. Oh.... I see you probably don't get it do ya.

While it would obviously nice for Kanter to do well the most important thing is getting him playing some full speed games again period. It's been awhile.

Playing well against a bunch of soft euros doesn't prove anything about being ready for the NBA.

This lock-out thing could really really really get boring.

Did you know that Turkey:

total area: 780,580 sq km
land area: 770,760 sq km
water area: 9,820 sq km
comparative area: slightly larger than Texas, or larger than France and UK put together, or 2.5 times bigger than Italy

From https://www.turizm.net/turkey/geographyturkey.html : The total area Turkey covers is a bit less than 800.000 sq km ( 774,815 sq km ), which makes it one of the biggest countries in Europe and the Middle East. The neighbours are Greece and Bulgaria on the norhtwest,Armenia and Georgia on the northeast, Iran and Irak on the southeast and Syria on the south. Of all, the Turkish-Syrian border is the longest.Turkey has no direct border with Russia, but the Black Sea on the north. The other seas that cover Turkey are the Aegean on the west and the Mediterrenean on the south. In other words, Turkey is a huge big peninsula wrapped up by seas on three sides that looks like the head of a horse, as a Turkish poet has put it.

Here is Turkey's Roster for FIBA U20, Enes is on it.

Doesn't look like Jonas Valuncius is playing for Lithuanian team--too bad I'd love to see a rematch.

Rather than unnecessary geographical discussion, i would rather talk about FIBA 2011 euro basket. Turkey's roster will be revealed in 5 days. Enes will be probably in it but i dont think he will play for the U20 team.
If we join the tourney with full health, we have the best big man rotation together with Spain. But still phsycal conditions of Semih Erden and Omer Asik are unclear.

It will be a very exciting tournament for the audience. And Turkey will try to prove they can do something without the home court advantage. Because our only success till now is the 2nd place in 2000 Euro basket and 2010 world championship both held in Turkey. I think due to lockout american audience will also show interest on the tourney and especially utah fans will have the opportunity to see Enes playing against Gasol bros, Valanciunas and Motiejunas , Gortat in the first round. It is possible to see a Nowitzki- Kanter matchup in the latter round.

I dont think Kanter will get many mins immediately unless either/both Semih and Omer will not be healthy in the tourney. But the coaching is pretty flexible so in case of a good performance put by Enes, we can see him taking a lot of mins in high level competition. Im pretty sure this will be a good tournament to answer the question marks in peoples mind about Enes.

Geographically a very small part of Turkey is in Europe but in sports competitions we are included in Europe. Even Israel participates in Europe, so it shouldnt be a big deal that Turkey is in as well.
