The Thriller

I don’t know how many of you have been following this story but it doesn’t look to be headed towards a happy ending.

SALT LAKE CITY — Officials searched the house Thursday where a search warrant was served in connection with the investigation of Mackenzie Lueck.

During a press conference Thursday morning, Salt Lake Police Chief Mike Brown said investigators have also identified the homeowner as a "person of interest" in the case, but declined to identify him.

Any possible connection the homeowner may have to Lueck's disappearance remains unknown.

Police served a search warrant at the Fairpark home shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday. The scene was cleared shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to KSL TV reporters at the scene.

Video footage from KSL Chopper 5 showed police digging holes in the backyard of the house located at 547 N. 1000 West. Police had not said if they've found anything as of Thursday morning.

Police recovered multiple items of evidence in the case, Brown said. He did not provide further details on the nature of the items found.

He also said his investigators were made aware of a mattress and box spring that were given away from the home. Brown asked anyone who received those items to contact Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.

KSL’s article from today doesn’t mention this, but yesterday’s stated that police were checking out the remains of a large bonfire which occurred a few nights ago in the backyard of the person of interest. This is pretty curious as you’ll see later on...

It appears that she was on a pretty shady dating website too:

The “person of interest” appears to be the author of this book:

Ezekiel was almost 15 when he witnessed a gruesome murder. An angry mob burned his neighbor alive in the street and the man died at his feet. Sadly, it was not the last time he witnessed such horror. With his well respected father as guide and mentor, Ezekiel saw this death, then a death much closer to home when a loved one was killed in the same brutal, terrifying way 50 feet from him, and he could do nothing to stop it. Staggering to recover from these severe traumas, he finds relief and joy in meeting his first love, becomes embroiled in grand theft, and experiences heartbreaking betrayal. Ezekiel must decide if he will join the ranks of a criminal mastermind, or fight to escape the tyranny that has surrounded his young life. Or even beat them at their own game. When trust is lost, can he even trust himself?

Yikes...

So my questions are:

Have you been following this story?
How do you teach your kids about safety on the internet/social media?

dafuq?

Where are you seeing the connection to the person of interest and the author? That is nuts if true.

Right?

So when reading the KSL comments the other day, someone googled the address and found the names of the people who lived at that address and found his name. I wanted to see for myself, so I did it on just your basic White Pages website. It took me like 30 seconds to find. Most of the names of the homeowners/residents were in their 70s or 80s. The only one in his 30s was the author's name (confirming the KSL poster's research). I googled it and found two profiles, one off Amazon (the author's bio) and one on Linkedin. He was originally from Africa, went to Utah State, served in the guard, and works in IT today in Salt Lake City (Linkedin). The Amazon bio is fairly vague but it indicates that he lives in Salt Lake City.

If you read his bio on Amazon and his Linkedin profile, it's hard to imagine that they're different people. How many 30 year old Ayoola Ajayi's working in IT are living in Salt Lake City? I'm not an expert at African names so perhaps this is super common? But I doubt it.

Really, it all took about 3 mins of Googling after reading the KSL comments. Once they released the address it's pretty obvious who the suspect is. This Ajayi seems like he's got a pretty dark mind.

Then you add into the equation that she's into some pretty dangerous online dating/hookup activity... And you have a recipe for disaster.

Damn Thriller, you were right!

They arrested that Ayoola guy, had evidence of her charred remains in his back yard.

That's absolutely awful. I do not understand people.

Wow. Just wow. Not too surprised but disgusted.

Sigh

Why are people hooking up with complete strangers late at night? Especially at that end of town. What possible good could come from that?

I don’t judge consensual hooking up. I’m happily married and it’s Not my place to judge. But it seems to me that one should try to minimize risks. That’s... not minimizing risks. Was she an escort? I’m unfamiliar with the website she was using.

I’m generally opposed to the death penalty. But for things like this, get rid of this disgusting animal. Hurry have a trial, judge him guilty, and shoot him out back. What a disgusting animal.

Apparently she was a sugar baby? Looking for guys to buy her things, pay her, in return for "companionship". Doesn't give the guy the right to kill her, but it does explain what she was doing out at that time.

Dude apparently got a bid from a contractor to make a secret room under his garage, soundproofed with hooks on the wall.

Let's just be thankful they caught this guy.

And apparently he had part of his backyard recently cemented over and turned into a patio. Although it’s unlikely, I wouldn’t be surprised if they find a few more victims. Dudes like this have a fascination with rape and death. Although, how stupid can you be to burn (at least some of) the body in your own damn backyard?

He texted her after she went missing which is how they locked on to him. He was very dumb. Thank heavens.

I agree
What he did to her seems way too brutal and sadistic to be a first time murder

So stupid. Almost asking to be caught. But maybe that’s how disgusting and sadistic he was. I’m curious if this will lead to other victims. I’m also curious if they can recover a body. The SLPD didn’t explain that part. They didn’t say that they found the body. They did confirm that they found human tissue in the ashes. In his book apparently he writes about seeing people burned alive using “tire necklaces.” I had to wiki that... and... it’s pretty awful.

Crazy to think a week ago we had no idea this psycho killer was living among us.

Ksl is reporting now that the suspect initially denied knowing her, seeing her, or having any interaction with her. They found pictures of her (on his phone or computer). And found that both of their phones indicated that they were in the same area at 3:00 am. And her last communication was with him right before her signal went dead.

Sigh

So senseless. And dumb.

Edit: I wasn’t paying attention to the dates as I’ve been out of town. But I was at the airport late on the night she came through and disappeared. We were literally separated by only minutes. Sad

Thats the sort of work you really want to do yourself.

Looks like he wrote a book about “necklacing” and then acted it out in real life. Sickening and sad.

I work with a South African guy whos told be about the sort of stuff back in the day.

Would it be a news story if she wasn't cute tho?

Yes.

Utah isn’t Florida. We don’t have people trying to have sex with gators or mugshots with half their heads blown off (all recent “Florida Man” stories).

Utah’s media typically spends months if not years rehashing these types of stories. I don’t think we’ll ever hear the end of Elizabeth Smart and what he did to her or rumors about what Josh Powell did to his wife’s body. Hell, it was just a few months ago I saw one station rehashing the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Things move a bit slower here in utah.
