2020 Presidential election

Here’s why Trump’s poll numbers are defying the impeachment mess
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/04/heres-why-trumps-poll-numbers-are-defying-the-impeachment-mess.html

KEY POINT
  • A very large number of Americans don’t have high levels of trust and respect for the government, and they’re generally OK with Trump being the junkyard dog who digs it all out, writes Jake Novak.

No matter where you turn, the news is filled with embarrassing stuff about President Trump. The CIA whistleblower complaint about his conduct on a call with Ukraine’s president has turned into a full-court impeachment scandal.

But through all of this, Trump’s approval rating is at its highest level of the year according to the Hill-HarrisX survey, and the other major polls taken since this Ukraine phone call whistleblower story emerged show few changes from the last surveys taken before the news broke.

How is this possible?

Anyone still asking that question simply hasn’t come to terms with why Donald Trump won the 2016 election in the first place. In short, Trump was elected to be the ultimate disruptor and to play that disruptive role as much as possible. “Drain the swamp” wasn’t just a campaign slogan, but a visceral feeling against establishment Washington in every way. Millions of Americans who voted for Trump and still support him chose him precisely because he is nasty, breaks the rules, and shows little respect for the political establishment at every level.

To really be mad at Trump for asking foreign leaders to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden or Hillary Clinton, the voters need to believe that Clinton and the Bidens aren’t inherently corrupt. They must also believe that just about all the rules and established groups within American government, especially the intelligence community, deserve unquestioned respect.

Here’s a newsflash: a very large number of Americans don’t have that trust and respect, and they’re generally OK with Trump being the junkyard dog who digs it all out.

This is Donald Trump’s brand.

Why is he digging it all out though? For the American people? Or to benefit himself?
Look at who he targets and the answer to that question will be obvious.
Everything he does is self serving.
He is supposed to serve us not himself.

While I'm still waiting to hear actual proof of corruption, I don't think the Bidens are inherently above being corrupt. I assure I can be mad at Trump, regardless of the Biden's level of corruption.

They must also believe that just about all the rules and established groups within American government, especially the intelligence community, deserve unquestioned respect.

The only rule I'm worried about respecting here is that POTUS doesn't alter foreign policy for personal gain. However, if you're good with Trump changing foreign policy to line his pocket or attack his enemies, you've gotten the POTUS you deserve.

Trump ain't digging **** out.

Trump doesn't "tell it like it is" he tells it like it ain't.

He isn't "draining the swamp," he's displacing the swampwater with his own feces.

The Bidens or the Clintons can be corrupt. That absolutely doesn't excuse the President from asking a foreign leader to investigate a rival candidate.

This is a video played at a conference for Trump supporters held at one of Trump's properties. Trump's son Don Jr and former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders were scheduled speakers at the event.

Super ****ing normal stuff here guys.

Relax. Its art.

And the right wonders why so many people favor stricter gun control. When the first solution even so many "sensible" people think of is a firearm, we've got a problem.

And left doesnt understand why the right feels the need to own a gun.

Meanwhile the left stages a coup on the president who was duly elected, and attacks freedom, basic rights, and the constitution.

Remember that one time a Clinton supporter living in a white van sent pipe bombs to a bunch of republicans and Fox News hosts? Remember that Clinton supporter who shot up that mosque in New Zealand? Remember that Clinton supporter who attacked that Walmart in El Paso?

Oh wait...

How do plan to stop impeachment with your AR15?

You're talking to someone who thinks impeachment is both a coup, and unconstitutional.

Let's just say he probably hasn't thought whatever nonsense that is through.

/or he's just trolling. My money's on that tbh.

The news media is held in fairly low regard in our country, at this time in our history. Yet, an adversarial press has been one of our most important institutions since the beginning of our republic. An institution that has, time and again, spoken truth to power.

Trump, by elevating the "fake news" meme, and "alternative facts" is doing more to forever demonize this critical institution, a free press in a democratic society, then any one prior. This demonization is one of the most damaging things Trump has done to our democracy. And one of the most irresponsible things. This damage will long outlive Trump.

Remember, truth is among the first casualties of fascism, or, as Timothy Snyder puts it "Post Truth is pre-fascism". A Post Truth era is an era in which a free press speaking truth to power is rendered meaningless.
