IT'S ON: Utah Jazz v. OKC Thunder -- Game 1

My only long term concerns from the game are to get Rudy's minutes down a bit and that our offense should try to generate a few more 3's. Did a great job on D and getting to the rim on offense, Donovan looked super in control, Rudy D'd up and all the role type guys looked good. Conley will be better.

- Didn't realize Rudy played so many minutes.

Favors was quite a luxury for the last two seasons. He was a starter who could provide instant offense off the bench at the same time as a back-up C.

Jazz could certainly use another rotational big

I think they like Exum for a variety of defensive matchups from 1-3. If we are going to be contenders, having a defensive specialist like that will go a long way.
Just because he is bad at offense doesn’t mean he’s a specialist on defense.

I haven't read much of a thread due to being at the game. Here are some of my thoughts:

- Our three point game did not ever seem to get going. Everything else looked good, though. Conley aside, I suppose. We only took 24 threes and only hit 6. Pretty impressive to win shooting so little/poorly from three. I'm awaiting seeing us bombing threes and us picking up 10 point leads fast.

- What the hell was up with the free-throw discrepancy? 31-20 in favor of OKC. At the very end of the game when they were intentionally fouling us, they weren't even in the penalty.

- Mudiay has looked very good. Anyone not see him being a rotation piece?

- Didn't think Donovan would look this good / make it look this easy. I had said that I thought he'd only increase scoring a little. Perhaps I'm wrong. If this is any indication of his efficiency...

- Jazz hates Mudiay, I'm sure. Look for the Mudiay arguments to come out of the woodwork.

- Defense was much better.

- Ed is good.

- Didn't realize Rudy played so many minutes.

The paint is more open for DM... so while we sucked at shooting at least that helped. DM was in complete control and I should not be shocked by the kid anymore but I was... We are so damn lucky. If he leveled up we are a legit contender.

I have a lot of thoughts on Mudiay... I'm trying not to over react, but what he did last night was more impressive than any one game that Exum has put up because I feel he did everything with intention and he can duplicate that performance... Most of Dante's good games came when he hit a few three pointers to go with some nice drives... a feat that he rarely can duplicate. Mudiay was pretty under control and got into the teeth of the defense seemingly whenever he wanted. The assist numbers were good... I just feel like we will see this type of game from him 10-15 times this year. He may have a game or two where he warms up from outside as well. His defense was solid... got blown by on one drive, but I didn't see any obvious other blunders. I honestly thought a couple of times Mudiay should have gotten And 1s on his drives... his size and strength on those finishes was impressive. One thing is for sure... if we are healthy when Dante is ready he does not get his rotation spot back automatically. A few more performances like this and I think I'd be poking around to see if we can get anything for Dante.

Also, I feel dumb for doubting Ed. Look, it was the first time I'd watched him under a microscope and he was bad I the preseason. He had a quote with Locke that he doesn't care too much for October basketball... he clearly took it up a notch and I currently have zero concerns about him.

SGA was a steal of a draft pick. No one on the jazz could stay in front of him. He was fun to watch last night.

He's so long (that's what she said). The impressive thing is when his angle got cut off he hit some mid range and mixed it up around the basket. I like him... wasn't completely bought in on his hype, but I see it more now.

Has he had a spot in the rotation? That's not a joke. When we have him he's always coming back from injury and getting spot minutes here and there.

His name is Willie Reed and the Jazz for whatever reason don't view him as a prospect.

I think if Donovan had pressed the issue, he could have had 45 and the Jazz would have won by more. The big part of his improvement is realizing that doing that might not be in the long term interests of the team.

He was clearly hanging back trying to let others get involved in the first quarter. Think he only had one point I the first. I'm not sure what the best strategy is there, but sometimes I prefer the lead guy to start strong so it takes some pressure off the ancillary scorers... probably no right or wrong answers.

We've always had some minutes for him... but honestly last night Conley was in foul trouble and I wouldn't have wanted to replace anyone on the wing with Dante. He will get in there somehow, but if Mudiay continues his strong play and is healthy then we shouldn't scale him back for a few Dante token minutes.

Exum is a depth piece. I legitimately think the most intriguing thing about Exum isn't even him, it's how dead-set people are on rationalizing the sunken costs on a kid that has proven nothing in this league. With his salary slot we could realistically have Caruso and/or JaMychal Green. We will be lucky if he turns into anything other than a perpetual DNP/>15 PER/negative +/-, and that includes being traded.

Davis is all business. If he played 30 minutes last night he would've logged 18 rebounds. Absurd.

I love Willie... don't think he is an nba player. Will root for the guy. He is the coolest at summer league every year. Always talks and interacts with the kids after the game. Played like 5 pop a shot basketball games with my son and his friends with bags of ice on his knees after a game this year. Super genuine and engaging... smiled the whole time. Think he needs to focus on playing overseas and I hope he can have a lucrative career. Good dude.
