2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

"What Zion averaged in college last year Randle averaged in the NBA" - Jalen & Jacoby

Trading Crowder and Korver also weren’t chemistry moves. But, but, but Exum.

Numbers-wise I convinced myself the Crowder to Green maneuver was not a downgrade... But chemistry and just nightly effort and toughness is a struggle right now and I think Jae would give us so much. I really hope DL tried to force Memphis to take Dante in the trade instead of those other guys... the reporting around it seemed to indicate that we didn't offer Dante but I hope it was all lies. I still can't imagine them saying no because I doubt they had a better offer... had we dug in I think they would have accepted still.

Tell me what you think of this...

Conley / Mudiay / Neto
Donovan / Korver
Bojan / Ingles
Crowder / Royce / Booker
Gobert / Davis / Chandler

We wouldn't have got Chandler but I think I like it more than what we have for sure. Even if we had this setup and it wasn't working you could send Jae/Korver out for better players on worse contracts... they have financial appeal... Dante has no appeal in a trade imo.

I've got a bunch of told-you-so's for a bunch of people on this board that forgot that toughness and having your teammates backs actually ****ing matters. Because of course it does.

Couldn't have signed Bogdanovic if we kept Crowder and Korver.

I think if we subbed Exum into the Conley deal we could... if not then just keep Jae and we are better off... the gist is still that we look better with Exum in that deal.

I get the point, but Crowder and Korver accounted for ~$15 million in salary while Exum accounts for ~$10 million.

Now, if the Jazz just straight swapped Exum for Crowder then the Jazz would have possibly been able to re-sign Korver if he still ended up getting traded before getting waived. In which case, the Jazz would've had another ~$2 million in cap AND Korver AND Crowder. That's a lot of variables though. But maybe instead of spending a million and a half of proper cap space on NWG (holy ****, someone get Lindsey away from any personnel decisions regarding point guards), they could've paired that with the $2 million they saved and went and got Caruso while the Lakers were waiting out Kawhi.

But this is all a bit silly. Of course what the Jazz should've done is not trade for Conley, signed Brogdon and JaMychal Green, then drafted Eric Paschall.

If we still got Bojan without Conley (I think we would) then yeah the Conley deal would be a pass. I try and be fair though... and I was on board with the Conley acquisition at the time, but would have very much preferred to put Dante in the deal at the time... I like to only be critical of the things I disagreed with at the time because hindsight is easy... anyone is a top notch GM with hindsight.

Then Eric Paschall would have 0 NBA Minutes.

DL was on the radio with Spence Checketts before the season started and he said Memphis never asked for Exum and the Jazz never offered him. They were talking about Exum but Checketts never even asked anything about whether or not he was ever a part of the trade offer for Conley, Lindsey brought it up all on his own, which leads me to believe he was telling the truth.

Well ****

I could see a deal with NY happening, and I could see the Jazz asking for Ntilikina to be included a) because he's an NBA athlete and good defender with good size for a combo guard, and b) because Rudy and Donovan both know him pretty well. They may see some Delon Wright potential in him. He's on a rookie deal for this season and next, just like Donovan. He's also only 21.

If it were me, I'd probably punt on Exum and try to get Ntilikina at this point. We also have Miye Oni who is a tough defender with good size at the 2-guard.

Jazz were interested in Bobby Portis during FA last summer, but I'm not sure how they feel about his contract. He's on a two-year deal at $15M/year.

We should be looking at end of bench guys on other teams that we could pick up on the low and turn into rotation pieces.

I don't see the Jazz FO giving up on this core this soon. And we don't have the assets to make a major move unless we move a core piece. DM, Rudy, Bogey, Mike, Joe and Royce are going to be here. They aren't going anywhere. So we need to improve around the edges. Basically, the bench unit. And I think the Jazz would place a particular focus into backup PG (Neither Mudiay nor Exum are ideal) and SF/PF to upgrade the Green and Niang minutes.

Who are some names out there? What about Kidd-Gilchrist? Could he be bought out? I know he can't shoot. But he's athletic, efficient offensively, rebounds, defends. He's only played like 2 games this season for the Hornets.

Well the good news about this embarrassing skid is that this front office is strictly reactive so maybe they'll trade the golden child for a real basketball player if the opportunity is out there.

I have been really, really high on the idea of Ntilikina for a while. He is a solid player in a bad situation. He still has potential and maybe he can unify this team due to his connection with Rudy and Donovan.

Exum and Green
for
Ntilikina and Gibson

NY saves money this year and pick up a player they hopefully have interest in (Exum). We get two useful players. Gibson provides much needed frontcourt depth. If we also have to send them Mudiay, then so be it.
