What's new

If the Jazz has the guts to trade Conley, then...

Yer right. To be clear, I wasn't saying I like the deal. I think the lesson here is there is no easy fix. Moving Conley with that contract would be tough, and the return questionable. As much as I didn't like the trade last February or again in June, I think the Jazz are going to have to ride it out.
It definitely appears that way. I think Conley will improve, and the system as a whole will be fine. But the the chatter about a championship was dada.

Maybe Delladova would heal the hearts of Exum fans. Another Aussie frequently falling to the floor....only difference is Delladova gets up on his own afterwards.

Plus Conley is highly regarded around the league. It would stay in the minds of a lot of players if the Jazz cut him off now, or appear to disrespect him in any way. Jazz got to play this careful.

I still think he will come around. I hope so anyway. I was one of the few that was against the trade knowing how often he gets hurt. But what’s done is done. I now hope he heals and plays better and trust in that he will.

I never doubted he was a good player. I just doubted that paying a guy that much for his injury track record was madness. But here we are. So I hope for the best.

Delli does not heal he injures. I wouldn't want that cheap shot artist practicing against our guys.

Completely correct - Conley was the move that bought Utah credibility in the free agent market. No doubt his presence factored in the Bogie, Green and Davis signings.

People need to just chill. Conley will come around - through the years his splits consistently show him getting better as the season goes on.

As I remember, about 1/4 to 1/3 of the board was against the trade before and right after it took place.
I think it was actually more. I was not on board all the way from the first rumors last year at this time. We spent way too much to get an aging heavily over-payed undersized ball-dominant guard. Way too much. And now we are stuck and, frankly, playing better ball with him not playing. This sucks.

We are not playing better without him

What were the Jazz suppose to do to please people who didn't want Conley? Keep Favors and Rubio and never try to contend? That roster, as much fun as they were, had limits. There just wasn't enough offensive firepower. This team with Bogdanovic and Conley has a much higher ceiling. They had to take a chance.

This is starting to feel like the Iraq War in 2009 all over again.

Sure, everyone was against it. Everyone knew it was a bad idea. Sure.

Go into free agency with hella money
Have draft picks to use to draft players or use in trades.

DL: Hey, Justin, we’re willing to promote you if you’ll agree to one thing...

Zanik: Sure, boss, what’s this all about?

DL: Tradition

Zanik: sure, no problem, tradition is for culture as memory is for individuals, so it must be important. Tell me more.

DL: You must continue to throw hella assets at aging point guards forever. Let this one position be like the imperfect stitch in a rug: proof that you aren’t God.

Zanik: ok. Let’s go get Conley. This will leverage the entire rebuild on a 6’ guard over 30. What’s better than this?

Not a Conley deal, but I think if we're looking to move Conley (other than in a CP3/Love/Griffin something like that swap), then I think we should seriously look at moving Bogdanovic as well. His value is probably relatively high now, try to pick up a younger talent that can fit longer term with Mitchell/Gobert.

Russell from GS? (better fit with the injured stars and lets them roll over the Iguodala TPE into an even bigger one)
Winslow/Olynyk from Miami? (gets Miami under the tax)
THJ/picks from Dallas? (Dallas decides they're ready)
Harkless/young guys from Clippers? (probably only cause I really like Shamet)

Would need to include Davis in a couple of these, but don't think that changes too much. Looking at Dallas again they're actually pretty low on picks already from the KP deal, so there may be no way to do that.
