What's new

Terrible movies.

Its the sequel The Godfather 2 when they buy Sea World, from memory Marlon Brando plays a whale in it.

Yeah, okay, but there's a movie called "We Bought a Zoo" with Matt Damon. It's an unbearable chick flick based around a dude who buys a zoo.

Weird stuff in this topic.

Like, even some of the bad movies mentioned, there's cinematic goodness in them.

I'm willing to bet it's more movies not living up to expectations rather than movies being outright terrible in its creation.

Take Crystal Skull. It's bad, but the opening scene in the desert is mediocre, not terrible. The college scenes are decent. Calling out Indiana for grave robbing archaeology was GREAT. First half of the movie is inherently watchable.

Also Masters of the Universe is great...to watch with other people. Good journey.

I feel there's a good chance any movie listed would be chosen to watch by anybody here over a movie like Battlefield Earth.

The 2nd mission Impossible was pretty awful. The rest of the series has been awesome.

Also, the Village. I remember everyone loved that Director. And I think this was probably the first of his busts. I saw this movie once in theaters and haven’t seen it since.
Hm. It's been a while but I remember enjoying Bryce Dallas Howard's and Joaquin Phoenix's acting in this one. It's also rather beautiful to look at. I dunno, I've always felt like this movie was unfairly maligned. The "twist" was pretty obvious, but this is far from M. Night's worst.

That's what makes this an interesting conversation. What movie you like is completely subjective, there is no objective measure of what makes a "good" movie. You could argue that if a movie was popular then it was good, but how do you explain the box office receipts of, say, star wars episodes 1-3. This is an infinitely arguable topic hence perfect for the internet.

Indiana Jones and the crystal skull.
The old Superman with the atomic man with long fingernails.
Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire and that 70s show dude.
The nutty professor with Eddie Murphy
Man Spiderman 3 sucked

Nic Cage is one of the most interesting actors working imo. He makes so many movies its easy to get the impression that all his movies suck, because a lot of them legitimately do. I don't know that much about him, but I'd guess he either really loves to work or he needs the money, otherwise I don't know why he'd take on most of the projects he does.

But when he's on, he's ****ing on. Bad Lieutenant, Mandy, Face/Off, goddamn Wicker Man (joking).

I've heard good things about his new movie Color out of Space as well. I'm really looking forward to seeing it, good Lovecraft adaptations are hard to come by.
Face off was awesome
I also loved The Rock
And con air was fantastic

Hes talking about Snowpiercer. Which I think is a good movie! Take it back Log!

Vanilla Ice made a movie called cool as ice... it was so bad that we watched it like 100 times in high school... it was so bad that the unintentional humor was great... 5 stars.

It has been all downhill for M Night Shyamalan after Sixth Sense.

He was sliding with Unbreakable and Signs before The Village. Signs was painful to watch.

The abyss of quality was Last Airbender, worst movie I've ever paid to see.

In terms of the movie I rated highly and thoroughly enjoyed, despite generally mediocre critical and commercial success was "Joe Versus the Volcano"

Interesting life and social commentary, fine acting, cool story and thought-provocative.

Because it had a silly title and silly scenes, I believe people missed the fact that is had a serious and interesting message, was heartwarming and was tons of fun. Peak Meg Ryan and solid Tom Hanks; they had chemistry across multiple Ryan characters.

I actually put it into my personal "top 100" movie list.

I love that movie. It is not some artistic masterpiece, but it is infinitely re-watchable because it is fun, relatable, beautiful and uplifting.

I thought "12 Years a Slave" was a terrible movie. I get that some might appreciate the technical aspects of it (like the acting), or they value the subject content, but after watching it I wished I could get my 2 hours back. I want a movie to 1) entertain, 2) uplift, and 3) teach me something. This movie failed in all 3 aspects.
