2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

I’ve changed my mind... there are too many small values out there that could make a difference for us... we can/should send some seconds somewhere for at least a small upgrade.

I would reiterate every NY Knick player is likely better than they are showing except maybe Marcus Morris. Tim Hardaway has also had a nice season in Dallas after being viewed as bad salary. Mudiay has been better here. Go poach Dotson or Frank (though I’m not a big fan). That environment is really bad.

I would like shooting on the floor in that spot too. Well, what I'd really like is a shot maker. It's too bad Niang is only a good shot maker once every few games.

once every 24 games is more like it, he is a scrub shouldn't be on our roster

Noel would be a good backup C, yes. However I'm impressed with Tony Bradley and want him to keep getting minutes. Part of his problems are about playing alongside hideous defenders like Niang. Also Mudiay has been good and should be considered a long term piece especially if Clarkson leaves a few months later. Also Conley's contract expires next season. Then Utah might end up having no rotation PGs on the roster minus Don.

That's the thing. Niang isn't going anywhere. So having a disruptive versatile defender like Noel making our lower end defenders like Niang look better is what we need. I like Bradley too. But he's not ready to be what we need him to be THIS year. We'd still have him for next year after Noel becomes a free agent. I fully expect us to keep Clarkson this summer. So I don't think we'll have a guard issue.

We've got plenty of other guys we could trade before Niang - Davis, NWG, even Mudiay. Once we trade Niang, some will just whine about needing more shooters.

Detroit will need to waive a player to do the Phoenix deal... to save some dough we could send them TB for Wood and Frazier (we then cut someone... NWG and likely Frazier too). Send them one second too... saves them a few bucks and gets them a young center under contract for next year. Next year they will have more financial wiggle room and 3.5M is no issue.

I'm for it. Grasp that Wood Dennis and yank hard.

I'm not so confident that Clarkson stays but I hope he does ...

the mini van delivers bricks, trade him and put him on the used car lot.
We can hate on his defense, rebounding, but dude is cash and he shoots a ton of threes. He has a really useful skill... its just if he doesn't hit on that particular night then he will be a negative on the court.

Putting him on the court with JC and DM gives them some space, but pairing him with them and TB on defense leaves us small and unathletic.

He's a spot we can upgrade on but still useful... if he played on one of these teams with terrible defense he'd likely be a guy some here think we should target.

It sounds like there is a huge 4-team deal in the works.

Houston out: Clint Capela
Houston in: Robert Covington

Atlanta out: expiring contract(s) + picks
Atlanta in: Clint Capela

Timberwolves out: Andrew Wiggins + Robert Covington + picks
Timberwolves in: D’Angelo Russell + expiring contract(s) + picks

Warriors out: D’Angelo Russell
Warriors in: Andrew Wiggins + picks

That is the premise of the deal from what I’m gathering.

I think Warriors only do it if they don't have to eat that Wiggins deal. I think they get Okogie, Dieng, a pick from Atlanta and likely one other pick... drops them below the tax this year (big deal because it gets them out of repeater this year and next).

I only included Wiggins because Woj said any deal including Russell would likely include Wiggins.

I have a feeling the Clips do something big... I think they end up with Marcus Morris and potentially swap Harrell for some traditional size like Thompson or Drummond.

They move quietly and are able to put together some pretty awesome deals... At very least I think they swap Harkless and a pick for Morris.

I just don't see Golden State taking Wiggins.

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have to move him if the Warriors didn’t want him. They could easily just move Covington + Dieng in multi-team deal.

they must think they can fix him... I say go for it Warriors... you are light years ahead of everyone...

It's financially possible, but the question is? Who is Atlanta trading? If they deal Turner, Parsons or Teague, it gets very complicated because they make so much money. The could do...

Warriors get Dieng
Hawks get Capella
Wolves get Russell and Jabari (acts as expiring)
Rockets get Covington and Len

I'm assuming the Warriors get picks from the Hawks and Wolves in this scenario

he isn't consistent enough though, he doesn't belong on our team neither in the nba. he just is off more than he is on. he just had a good stretch one stretch. he would be the mvp of the g league. We need to upgrade him on our roster.

If Niang or TB are important in getting a legit piece you really want, you trade them. I am fairly certain their value isn't higher for other teams than ours, in which case you keep them. Teams need depth and that's what they should be for the Jazz. Neither should really be in the rotation but both should remain on the team for that depth, and if they aren't necessary to make a deal work then that is exactly what should occur.

Look I don't know if we got what it takes to get him... but we should push in what we have to do it. I mean outside of the top 7 guys. I don't know if he anchors a defense well enough, but he'd do some positive things on that side and the offense would be amazing. Could push Joe back to the bench because he'd have a stud pick and roll partner. He can play alongside Rudy when the Lakers go big... this is the dude. The fake handoff drive and dunk is something we don't have that would open things up for Bojan, Joe, DM etc.
