I can see why certain people (especially young people) are attracted to Sanders, but the vast majority of voters will quickly realize that his Utopian socialist plans would not make their lives better in reality. I think if this gets to a brokered convention where Bernie leads in the delegate count, but doesn't get the nomination, it's quite possible that Bernie goes scorched earth and runs as an independent. At a minimum, you can't expect die-hard Bernie supporters to enthusiastically support another nominee.
What the DNC should do, at this point, is ask Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg to exit the race. They don't have a realistic path to the nomination, and they're just muddying the waters. The 20% - 25% support that those two represent would then coalesce behind other candidates and might put one or even two of those candidates on par with Bernie in the race. Then you'll have a clear picture.
Right now, you have one candidate running in the left lane, and four or five candidates cannibalizing the votes in the center lane. The result is Bernie as a frontrunner with 30% - 35% support and the other four-five candidates destroying each other. Bernie is the beneficiary of the other candidates attacking each other and getting in each other's way.

Ahh, you're right. Sanders posted an op ed with that quote to his official website. He is now distancing himself from it. No surprise. Socialists have a longstanding habit of praising the theories that they dream of pursuing, while running from the actual results.

So @Gameface claims that Bernie is too ideological and worries about his electability. After all, in order to win in 2020, Democrats will need to win over a lot of people who are hella more conservative than Bernie. Especially in swing states.

Rich people didn't get rich (or hold on to wealth) because of stupidity. If they think their money is at risk in this country due to ideas like wealth taxes, etc. they will move as much as they can to protect it. When people start moving money out of the markets it starts to tank, and convinces more people to move their money.

It was an editorial from a New Hampshire newspaper with a readership that includes Sanders home state of Vermont. The thrust of the editorial was income inequality and for a time it was posted to Sanders website. Sanders distanced himself from it because a throw-away line about Venezuela was being directly attributed to him. He simply clarified they were not his words or his position, yet dishonest conservatives continue to insinuate, nearly ten years later, that they were. The fact is Sanders has never once praised Venezuela as a model for socialism. He does point to Scandinavian-style socialism as well as FDR’s New Deal. Again, if you want to argue against Sanders brand of socialism, that’s the place to begin.

You can’t blame Gameface for being queasy about the term “socialists”— the American government shamefully misled millions of troops to murder civilians in the name of combating this purposefully smeared ideology. To accept that socialism isn’t evil would basically equate to thousands of Americans being sent to The Hague for war crimes (the leaders— not the infantrymen; they were just carrying orders).
