The discount was that he agreed to a short-term extension. He likely could have received more years had he opted out and hit the open market. Pre-injury he was clearly a top-10 center, despite his deficienices on defense. He was a 17/8 player as the 3rd option behind Boozer and Deron. In hindsight, he really lost out by NOT declaring for free agency. He probably could have gotten a 5 yr/$50M deal. Just look at the contracts handed out to other bigs with not nearly the stats and/or questionable attitudes or effort.
