What's new

Coronavirus

I hadn't heard of the church and found it an interesting anecdotal, since that's about all we have to go by rn. You've said the 4% death rate is way too high. It provides insight on what it might be closer to.
I agree, it is helpful. But saying other things are all wrong and this is the information to trust isn't the right approach. I actually haven't seen that yet either, actually still haven't. But that's besides the point.

I personally think the death rate is below 1% based on many things but time will tell. Part of that assumption is based on anecdotal evidence but also more scientific evidence.

I wouldn't give him grief except he most consistently calls everyone else dumb...

Hope you get better soon and can stay isolated.
Hourly workers literally can't stay isolated. We have to go to work. I can't call in and say "Hey, just trying to be responsible so I'm going to stay home for the next couple weeks. See you sometime in April..." I just can't

And as for not going out. The people at the pub work for tips. I'm not doing them any favors by staying home. They need to pay their bills just as much as I do.

Economic pressure is going to spread this because most of us don't have the option to just isolate unless we also want to starve to death.

I agree about going out. You should try to help business out if you are not sick but also being smart and aware.

As far as not being able to as hourly employees I get that. If you literally can't because of finances then try to get help. But you might have to make some sacrifices if you can. Use your vacation days, forgo another expense if you can. Start a go fund me.

Big no thanks to all of that. Honestly, I'd like to do my part, but it's not going to be by using vacation days so that I can isolate. It just isn't. I'm not going to tighten the belt buckle and take no pay for this **** either.

@fishonjazz

Have you gone to a hospital? Please go for medical attention. I know you’ve made comments before about being concerned about the costs associated with such but frankly, **** the costs. Money doesn’t matter, your lives do. And I’m sure you could sell your truck, take out equity in the home, worst case, once this passes to pay off any medical bills.

Moreover, hydrate like crazy. Force yourself to. Take vitamins. Look online for any nut job stories you can find and try it. Eat well. Etc.

Fish doesn't have to sell his truck to go to a doctor. It's more that going to a doctor is a ****ing waste. They don't investigate. They aren't going to give him a COVID19 test. They take 5min then give you ******** over the counter treatments and meaningless prescription cough suppressants. If they are 30% or more thinking it might be some random bacteria that they aren't going to nail down in any way at all they'll just give you a prescription for antibiotics.

Fish brings a gallon of water with him to work. He drinks water like a, uhm, well, a fish.

I don't think he's avoiding going to the doctor because it will cause him to go into bankruptcy, but because they are a complete waste of money 99% of the time.

Okay. So if he does have it, better off staying home, right?
He doesn't.

And if he does (he doesn't) better off waiting for our company to just shut down operations and give us paid leave for a bit.

I'm not using my own paid time off to stay home for this. I'm not. We don't have different buckets, one for sick time, one for vacation, we have one bucket. If I have COVID 19 and miss work then **** all the time off I have planned the rest of the year, I get to spend my paid time off in quarantine. **** that. Seriously. **** that.

I do miss work when I'm sick. I always have. And you know what, I have a **** reputation because of that. You're not supposed to miss work because you have a little cough and muscle aches. You're supposed to man up and go to work. That's the culture we live in. You think I should take it on the chin for this when my employer actually calls the doctor's office to verify sick notes because they think people are abusing the system? I'm just going to wait until my employer stops operations (probably after a few people at my workplace test positive) so that it isn't me being the POS. That's the American Work Ethic. That's what's gonna spread this ****.

We're not going to bail out service workers pay. We're not going to force employers to give people paid time off for this. We expect hourly employees to just suck it up and bare the cost. **** that! **** that with a baseball bat.

Even if you just have the flu you're better off staying home. If you aren't sick enough to need a doctor there's no reason to go in. Even if it's covid19. But it's the responsible thing to stay home and isolated.

This is why the flu infects so many people.

You're saying you don't want to take a financial hit for it but your making that hit to a bunch of other people you infect or worse.

At the very least wear a mask(masks generally don't help you not catch something but they help a lot in you not giving something), sanitize and wash your hands constantly, and avoid contact with people if you can.

I'm still waiting for this 20-50% American unfounded uptick...

Still averaging about 9-12 deaths every day, so I'm not saying the major uptick here either...

So far .000001% of the population is unfortunately sick in the US.
Switzerland is at .02%
Germany .007%
Denmark .02%
Canada .0009%

Oh and good for Mexico for threatening to close down it's borders. I don't blame them. I've always been of the part that border protection is common sense and every country should protect theirs. Sadly there's people out there who don't understand this and would rather call someone a terrible term instead of practice common sense.

My wife and I have been sick for like 10 days. I thought we were pretty much better but tonight is the worst night yet. Can't stop coughing. Took cough medicine and have a cough drop in my mouth right now and just can't stop coughing. Can't sleep.

Our company is respecting that choice. Of course we are close to a few outbreak sites, being in Fontana CA. We can't pay people who choose not to come to work, but temporarily we have basically suspended our attendance policy, on a case by case basis. If course the income piece is the toughest part to resolve although we have a couple of people who have opted to use PTO to cover some time off. We are working on a plan to keep paying people, even if it is a partial check, should we end up in a quarantine situation, which I fully expect to happen at some point in all this.

I would totally stay home if I wouldn't get fired for staying home. But I would get fired so I will go to work

This is all true.
I could afford to go to the doctor but don't want to waste the money.
