Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

Protested, again tonight. I chose my job specifically to help address these issues. It’s my life’s passion. My work will be immersed in this now. I’ve donated, talked to my black friends and colleagues. Talking to my white friends and encouraging exactly what I’ve been posting on this site for years now.

Always listening, trying to understand my place in all this and standing ready to speak out and act appropriately.

Personally, I want to go to a protest on Saturday in the town in which I teach but I’m very hesitant because of corona. The town has the most Covid cases and deaths of any city in the county and I’ve had a bunch of students who’ve had family members die. It’s a city where everything is close together like NYC and the notion of contracting it there scares me.

And that's fine. But when your premise is that people are condemning protestors, it may be worth wondering if anyone has condemned or been judgmental of protestors (they haven't -- you're literally witnessing something that everyone supports) and if conflating condemnation of senseless violence and destruction (against the black communities) are one-in-the-same. This may not be something that you feel is on your mind, but it's on your mind enough to be distressed about seeing what you perceive as judgment and condemnation.

But if you're not wanting to engage that idea with other things on your mind, I'm fine with no further engagement.

Again, it doesn’t really matter man. If you want to spend your brain power trying to split hairs and condemning whoever doesn’t protest the way you like is your thing. I will continue to encourage you increase your altitude and start looking at this as a whole. Your condemnation of anyone right now is kinda disingenuous and frankly, self-centered.

I know I’m coming off like a dick right now, but I’m tired of pulling punches to make white dudes feel better about they’re biased, white-washed opinions.

The COVID stuff scares me while I’m out there. I’m definitely marching with space. You can do it though, but it will take courage. I hope you go!

I would be at the protest if I could. I go to lots of them in the USA. But I think you should not go, at least into the crowd for this. You've been very careful and careful with your whole family. You could go and keep distance from others, wear your mask, and be safe. Alternately you could be like many others have and protest by yourself on a street corner that's busy.

That's lots of other ways to help and protest.

I'll make this more clear:

- I've condemned people getting murdered. Correct, that's protesting in a way I don't like.
- I've condemned white people and others going into minority communities and victimizing them through their actions and destruction, leaving them holding the bag and leaving them as the ones taking the blame. Again, that's also protesting in a way I don't like.

If you think the above are valid forms of protest, that's on you. If you think I'm saying anything, or have said anything beyond the above in this thread, that's again on you.

There wouldn’t be space in this city. People would be packed together.

Yeah I need to think it over.

It’s just me and my girlfriend. I don’t have kids and I’m staying away from my olds.

You work with kids and have a family. Doesn’t sound safe. You have more on the line than I do...

is this ANTIFA? They look like terrorists. Was this the terrorist groupie that Donald warned us about? No names or markings, how do we know these guys aren’t terrorists? Can’t we call DC police to remove them?

I continue to be shocked at the support he still has among what I call smart rational people. Was asked by a family member I love and respect... Do you think our country is racist? I said yes... I prefaced with obviously not everyone... I mentioned we have a racist president in the response... the reply shocked me... He said... "you think the president is racist?" I was like yeah... it isn't like he hides it.

He shook his head disapprovingly... I'm conservative and I guess I skew Republican, but I hate the two party system... so I've declared myself agnostic recently. I was shocked he couldn't see the guy for what he is because he is still tied to his party.

I don't think Biden is a great answer, but I won't be voting trump. Country needs a hard restart right now.
Great post
I don't think Biden is the answer either but it least he won't cause as many problems that need answers as trump does/will.

Weird. It’s not like the GOP does a good job of hiding their racism. This was just today:

This was just a few years ago in arguably the most high profile governor’s race:

I haven’t even brought up Republican history since 1964, the new Jim Crow of the war on drugs, actual racist policies, and the daily racism of Fox News, am radio, and Trump. At this point, being surprised that the GOP engages in racism would be like being surprised that the earth is round or that vaccines help to prevent disease. What kind of news does your family member consume? Did they start becoming politically aware in the 80s? I’ve found that those who grew up with Reagan are much more loyal to the party than almost any other demographic.
