Game Thread August 30, 2020: Nuggets at Jazz - Game 6

Added to Calendar: 08-30-20

I just remember Quin rearranging our whole ****ing defense in game one of a series to try and stop a guy from beating us... That was when we actually had a good defense... in this series he still plays drop big.... leaves Murray and Jokic with open shots all night long.

He needs to get some looser pants, some socks, and make some ducking adjustments.
Rudy has to drop because Murray has a path at all times. Unless we put Morgan on Jokic and Rudy helps both sides but then they will either pull Rudy to weakside with Jokic post threat or he helps on Murray and Jokic gets easy looks.

Also, this team seems to be allergic to taking charges. I think this is a failure of the coaching staff/gameplan. If they emphasized rotations more and taking charges, you could have Rudy show more with more confidence.

I did feel like we got a poor whistle but we also have gotten sloppy at different parts of the last two games and it’s really cost us.

I do not feel good about the Jazz going into game 7. They look defeated already.
Assuming Denver advances it is going to be really interesting to see how Murray looks against the Clippers. We may find out exactly how bad our defense is.

So glad we just signed Ingles and O’Neale to extensions...

I don’t think their contract extensions is the problem. The elephant in the room is Conley. We traded so much for him, he’s not a good fit, and he’s only getting older.

In Rudy's defense, his teammates did him no favors on the defensive end. They leave him in impossible positions when Murray goes through 2 or 3 guys and Rudy rotates and that leave Grant or Jurkic open for wide open shots. They didn't miss too many of those tonight.

Probably just me over reacting but after some chippy interactions tonight... I’m thinking there may be some major changes if we lose game 7.

The rest of the team expects him to clean up, yes. I can see the argument for preserving yourself for the other side of the ball (Donovan) or preserving yourself generally (Joe), but Royce is here to do one ****ing thing and he has to fight harder at it.
Yes but Rudy is playing against the best big in the league, at least offensively. He can't help on everything. Everyone needs to step up. Mitch can get some slack for sure.

The way I feel right now, the Jazz are toast unless they get outstanding games from 3 to 4 players. Tonight it was DM and Conley had his moments. Everyone else stunk up the joint.

We have surrounded him with defenders and we needed offense. We surrounded him with offensive players, and now we need defense.

There was a glimmer of defensive prowess a few games vs Houston last year but we still lost 2 of those 3 games.

I personally think we could be better with bigs who can set screens but also get out and guard the perimeter. We don't dominate rebounding with Rudy. He doesn't protect the rim exceptionally well in the playoffs.

I want to keep Rudy, but I don't think he is a max player.

Tonight the offense was my turn your turn when Mike was on the court... it wasn’t great. It looked pretty great a couple games and I got some hope but then it’s gone back to the same kinda weird dance. It just isn’t consistently fluid it seems.

Our bench is garbage. Why not let Oni, Morgan, JWF, NWG and Brantley have a lot of minutes for game 7. At least they might try, play some D and hustle. Jerry is weeping tonight.

I'll be the first to eat crow about this, but trading for Conley was the worst decision the Jazz have made since Maxing AK-47.
Trade rudy? Rudy isn’t the reason why we lost.

Jingles and Royce going 2-8 and 10 pts is.

The problem has always been finding better wings. Give us another athletic wing like Grant and this series is over. We’ve always needed a bit more juice at that wing spot.
had a chance but the FO blew their load on a 31 unathletic wing in Bogey. I love Bogey, but the jazz needed true athletic stoppers on D to go alongside MItchell

Well you can drop and top lock but you have to ask one more guy to rotate... we want Rudy to drop and then get all the way back to Jokic... like he has a ****ing teleporter or something.

That would mean the Conley experiment has officially failed. It'd be either Quin or DL out of the door.
Nah they both got enough leash and security. Could always pivot.

And who's to say him and Spyda really care for each other? I get the feeling there's still something there.
