Who's the longest tenured Thunder player now... Hamidou Diallo?

We really used our first round pick and our MLE on two backup centers and just completely ignored the crystal clear deficiencies in our roster 2-4. We're literally choosing to run it back with exact same problem that doomed last season. Which was a severe lack of size, length, athleticism, versatility, depth and defense 2-4.

We have 3 NBA level wings. Bojan Bogdanovic, Joe Ingles and Royce Oneale. That's it, that's all. And the Jazz seriously find that sufficient enough to compete for a championship....

Unreal. So dumb.

Kinda surprising

The last roster spot is likely reserved someone who can play PG....NWG would be the cheap option, but I'd imagine that they'd try to find someone with the BAE if they're already going to be over the tax.

He makes $17 less than Conley, plays better D, doesn't dominate the ball, allows us to avoid the luxury and use the BAE.

He also might not be under the presumption or dare to demand a starting/finishing role. That is really huge, looming issue with this team; we're better when Conley is hurt (or at least not any worse).

You mean a player with any chance they might be an NBA player? Yeah, might be good. Or maybe just get one wing that isn't an old white guy or 6' 4"?

Depends on if they want to sign the 15th guy or the 10th guy. Rough estimation is that using the BAE will be about $5M more expensive than filling the roster with NWG. Given that they spent $3.5 M for Hughes, I'm guessing that the money isn't a problem here. It'll probably come down to how much they believe in Oni/Hughes. But I'm with you, I would definitely look to add a perimeter defender. Dunn (who is a PG but can defend anyone) and Harrison would be at the top of my list.

Really should not have drafted Doke and gone with Bane/Bey/Woodard instead.

We'll see if this holds. I may be the only semi-NWG fan among Jazz fans. Still huge questions about his ability on the NBA stage, but looked fairly good with great team impact on Stars. I think he can at least hold down the fort for a game or two.

Especially since they knew they were signing Favors beforehand. Could have had TWO of the aforementioned and we got zero of them.

I’d like to think I will not care about this in the middle of the season. But when one of those dudes pops it’s gonna really bug.

Hard to ignore how the Lakers got so much better.

They replace Rondo with Shroeder
Replace Dwight with Montrezl Harrell
Replace Danny Green with Wes Matthews

If the Lakers bring back Caldwell-Pope, they are better than last year. Scary.

I think DL should be fired for incompetence or laziness if we bring back NWG. I assumed he’d be waived. If you can’t find a guy that can help you more or a better prospect then you are either full on stupid or just too lazy to do the paperwork. NWG would likely not even get a two way if we cut him.

NWG should have already been cut. Good GMs aren’t good because of the easy obvious moves. It’s easy to pay Favs and get the proven guy... it’s easy to overpay someone good to retain them... good GMs find the next Shaq Harrison, Wood, or Dort. Sticking with NWG gives us one less opportunity to find that guy. DL can’t get rid of his pets. Not at least until he overpays them and has to attach second round picks.

I agree. And financially, it doesn't make much sense either. I know it's only like $200k (NWG vs a true minumum), but we can't be that far from escaping the luxury tax.

We could nab an undrafted free agent and save 800k... even if they sign someone on this god damn site that would be better than keeping NWG because it moves us further from the hard cap.

None of Bane/Bey/Woodard are even close to rotation ready. They might not even be NBA players. They certainly weren't some sort of "solution" to what currently ails us.

There’s actually something of a precedent being set where rookie (or very unproven) defenders are helping their teams win. For example, Toronto and OKC have built really good defenses with the likes of players similar in profile to those you just mentioned. Switchable wings.
