Do they not realize that getting a larger piece of the pie won't matter if the season is lost? Do they really expect the owners to cave? Each passing day gives the owners more power. The deals are only going to get worse and worse.
They should agree to whatever the owners are offering now and just settle for their own share of the pie. As long as the NBA maintains and increases popularity, they're still going to be paid very well.
But if the season's lost? bye bye pie.

I have to agree. I see nothing but ego driving the players forward at this time. The owners IMO made their final offer and the players were dumb enough to play Russian Roulette with said offer. I don't see the offer improving at all. It took a plethora of bad choices to get to this point. A Union President who will retire soon and wants to leave a huge impact. A Player rep who is also not too far away from retirement and has made a lot of money in his career. These two are playing chicken in a pickup truck against a train. Eventually they will cave to these demands and in the process come to realize that they lost their players even more money for not caving sooner.
At some point these values do swing back around to pressure on the owners as well. That point is reached when franchise values start declining precipitously. I don't know when that happens, but even billionaires probably don't want to see their $200-500 million assets shrivel up and die.
And that's before we take account of knock-on effects on other business ventures.
