Underrated/underappreciated movies

Lot of great ones there.
I liked place behind the pines.
Hated shape of water
Liked cabin in the woods
Loved bone tomahawk
Super duper loved tropic thunder and thought Robert Downey should have got an Oscar.

Nailed it, especially the bolded one.

I'm always surprised Ruthless People doesn't get more love.
We like compassionate people I guess. But that wouldn't make as good a movie title (or movie most likely)

Compassionate People

Yeah kind of bland.

Strictly Ballroom

Isn't that just this...

you know, basically the same thing

But I hated the OA, btw.

Am I missing something? (A joke, perhaps?) I haven't ever seen The OA, but the IMDB short description is "Having gone missing seven years ago, the previously blind Prairie returns home, now in her twenties with her sight restored. While many believe she is a miracle, others worry that she could be dangerous." ... which isn't anything at all like Strictly Ballroom.

It's a weird show about some bizarre interpretive dance helping people get to another dimension. So when the description of the movie you posted said a dancer who used a new unusual move it made me think of this.

One I can’t believe I forgot is Drowning Mona. Hilarious dark comedy. Pretty impressive cast to have flown so far under the radar: Danny DeViti, Bette Middler, Jamie Lee Curtis, Neve Campbell, Casey Affleck. I strongly recommend people check that one out.

ETA: also Will Ferrell (albeit this movie was before he or Casey Affleck were well known).

I really d

I really dislike Bette Middler. She has done well in a few overall good movies, but for whatever reason I just don't like her at all.

That’s good because the whole premise is that everyone hates Bette Midler.

I know I’ve seen another few films in the last a couple years by which I was really pleasantly surprised. One was The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Really good film. . I believe the title is correct without looking it up.

Two movies from the early 90s. I think they'd both be up @colton 's alley. One is Once Upon a Crime (the trailer sucks):

The other is a Stallone movie with him in quite a different role called Oscar (trailer also sucks):

And speaking of Oscar, it's a bag-switch movie (not shown in trailer), which reminds me of another probably more well-known bag-switch movie, What's Up, Doc?

Interested if @Gameface hates Streisand, too.

Once Upon a Crime was great! It was the "Knives Out" of its day. Man, I miss John Candy, he was so great.

Haven't head of Oscar, but maybe I should check out it.

I've tried to reference this movie a few times and no one has ever known wtf I was talking about.
Growing up it was all about movies like The Naked Gun, Hot Shots, Airplane, Spaceballs while Top Secret was kind of brushed under the rug and honestly I dont know why.

She's not my favorite.

Keep in mind, though. I was an early teen when they were still making movies and the movies they made weren't particularly aimed at the teen boy audience.

You mean as a teen boy you didn't find Bette Middler hot? How about now?
