NFL Talk

I also think it's worth noting that had the Raiders tried to do this before the injury, the Bengals probably wouldn't have asked for the moon to begin with. The Raiders had to be smarter and more patient than this.

One 1st rounder and 1 2nd rounder (If the Raiders WIN a playoff game then its 2 1st rounders).

I am not saying who won. Right now for me.. yes the Bungles won but if Palmer does well then you can say its a good deal from both sides.

As a Steelers fan I yelled at my buddies who are Raiders fans when I heard this but then I remembered its the Bungles we are talking about.
List of their 1st/2nd rounders
2011 - AJ Green/Dalton
2010 - Gresham/Dunlap
2009 - A. Smith/Maualuga
2008 - K. Rivers/J. Simpson
2007 - L. Hall/K. Irons
2006 - Joseph/Whitworth
2005 - Pollack/Thurman
2004 - C. Perry/K.Ratliff
2003 - Palmer/Steinbach
2002 - L. Jones/L. Thompson
2001 - Smith/Ochocinco
2000 - OchocincoWarrick/Roman
1999 - A. Smith/Fisher

With that being said they either draft horrible or they develop their talent horrible. I think I vote for both. Maybe they have turned the corner with the past few drafts but we will see.

Palmer has more than one year. You act like a 31 year old QB's career is over. Why not give him some time to see what he can accomplish with the Raiders?

And they'll now develop how? Via free agency? From within? There current core is flawed and yet they won't be able to plug in the holes via the draft because the cupboard is pretty much bare.

So draft picks out side of the first two rounds and non-drafted players can't make a difference?

In 2012, they now don't have their 1st round pick (Palmer), 2nd round pick (a Pats trade), 3rd round pick (Terrelle Pryor), 4th round pick (Campbell), or 7th round pick (Curry). So yeah, I'm sure they're really likely to hit the jackpot with their 5th and 6th rounders. Know what the **** you're talking about before you post.

****ing Eagle fans.

Draft picks outside of rounds 1 and 2 = 5th and 6th rounders and non-draftees.

Know common sense, guy.

Palmer > Campbell > common sense > SalmonHomo

THEIR.....

As far as their 'core' they have a very good core actually.

Palmer is 31.. only a few players 'older' than him including their P, K, Seymore.

They have a YOUNG team.. throw in a Vet QB and they may flourish.

Their receivers still blow, tight ends are mediocre and secondary is suspect. By the time, they have another worthwhile draft, Palmer may be be 34.5 and two seasons into an awful showing by the bay. Too much to risk imo. But I'll root for them.

I wouldn't say their recievers BLOW by any means but they are not great by any means.
J. Ford - (2nd Year)
Heyward-Bay - (3rd Year)
L. Murphy (3rd Year)

As far as their TE's they have 2 Rookies on their roster.

What you have to realize is that most Recievers (Outside of a few i.e. Megatron) are not drafted in the 1st 2 rounds. Look at the top WRs in the league this year.

Welker
Steve Smith
Mike Wallace
Calvin Johnson
Greg Jennings
Hakeem Nicks
Maclin
Garcon
D. Jackson

How many of those were 1st or 2nd round picks?

As far as their defense they are suspect and not ranking good through 6 games but they have played some of the top ranked offenses in the league (New England, Houston, Buffalo). I think if anything through Free Agency is where they are going to have to impact their defense

Regardless, their wr's and tight ends (you left out Boss) blow. Were you the same guy saying the Rams receivers were good?

Most WR's are only as good as their QB makes them. Oakland hasn't had a good QB since Kerry Collins in 05. Campbell is good as a game manager/ someone who isn't going to mess up too much, but he doesn't have the potential to win games as Palmer does.

Notice how Salmon is acting like it's the worst trade ever and everyone else is like, "Yeah, well, let's just see what happens because it could turn out to be a pretty good deal for the Raiders."

P.S. Know your football, guy.

I'm not hot on what they gave up, since draft picks are golden. I personally, would have kept the draft picks.

But then again, I'm not going to be so quick on the trigger in calling this a horrible trade.

I think most of you are forgetting that Palmer has the #1 RB in the league right now.

He won't be asked to do too much.

If he has any juice left, then he'll be able to save it for the playoffs/crucial games. He might be able to deliver with his ability and leadership in tough games that would have otherwise been dropped by Boler and Pryor. Look at what Farve was able to do when he had a few decent targets, a good RB, a half decent O-line, and a good defense. He was one first down away from the super bowl.

I think Palmer should have more left in the tank than Farve did when he joined the Vikings... Anyone remember how Farve delivered on that last second drive against the Niners? Or how he dominated the Packers? Or how he lead them in the playoffs?

We'll see what happens with Palmer...

Maybe you're right. In the Rams case, they have a good qb. Yet their receivers blew. Some moran on here said they had a good or very good receiving core. Shefter this week said that multiple NFL personnel guys said the Rams had the worst receiving corp in the league and thus made the trade for Lloyd.

As a lifetime Raider fan, I'm conflicted. I thought they should go after Palmer a couple years ago, and I'm happy they've landed him now, but is there any question that the price was way too high? A 1st and 2nd round pick? How did Brandon Lloyd only return a 5th round draft pick but Carson Palmer returns a 1st and 2nd?I'm guessing that the Raiders felt he was their only option and would pay any price. The Raiders usually blow their 1st round picks on garbage anyways, so maybe it doesn't matter.

I don't really like the trade either, because those are high picks. I give props to Oakland though. They have SUCKED terribly for a while now. They are finally playing playoff bound football, but then their starting QB goes down. They make a major trade to keep their winning going on. If I were a fan of the Raiders, I would really appreciate that.

Still think they could have just gone for Orton with a 5th rounder or something. Orton with a run game could actually be a good QB.

Never said they had a good WR base but may have said that they have potential.

Amendola is their short yardage guy (Broke his arm and been out)
Alexander is young (2nd Year)
Pettis is young (Rookie)
Salas (Rookie)
Sims Walker (Talented but a let down)
