Jazz Offseason Plan

Ingles being traded is interesting. Expiring contracts are definitely enticing to other teams.

Ingles has value to us beyond being an expiring... not sure he does to other teams. It would be truly one of the dumbest things to trade him. He’s been an iron man and this next year is his swan song. He’s one of the more flexible pieces. I can’t even think of a rational move that makes sense for us, him, and an acquiring team.

Tony’s post said the DEFENSE targeted him. As in, they were game-planning specifically to stop him, and couldn’t.
Unstoppable!

I don't think you read that right. Other teams were throwing the kitchen sink at them to defense Bryce Cotton and him. Cotton was MVP of the league.
Cotton was only MVP because he took what the defense gave him, and when the defense is quintuple-teaming Mooney, you get to score a lot.

That’s fine, but if we are doing a sign and trade and some team wanted him instead of Clarkson or something is he a deal breaker?

At this point Jazz should consider trading anyone not named Donovan Mitchell
The point guard who is the leading scorer in the Israel pro league looks interesting. A Canadian-Nigerian who played his college ball in Canada. Eric Griffin appears in the leaders in ppg so that league is not terrible.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I'm probably blinded by how much I like his personality, but I think he's probably one of if not the most important leaders in the locker room-that's really important. He did lose a step, can't remember who said he hasn't-he was notably slower in the Clippers series-but he can still play.

Thing is, who exactly are we getting to replace him? Same issue with Royce and Clarkson. That's another big reason I'm on the trade Bogie bandwagon - his skill set is more or less redundant. Ingles, Royce, Clarkson, etc. are not.

Yep, we don’t have one player that does everything Bogey does. But I think we can replace him pretty easily by committee. He’s a luxury for us and has trade value. I think he gone!

The one exception is his ability to bang a little down low. Maybe Mooney is to address that in limited minutes?

Quin and the rest of the FO will like Mooney’s ability to screen with intention I think. He knows why he’s doing it and how to do it and would fit in with our offense.

FWIW…

I doubt we find a player worth making that sacrifice for... so
I’m gonna say yes... it’s a deal breaker.

That was something I noticed is he made a couple guys fee that pick. It’s an under-rated thing but pretty important for us.

It isn’t hard, but I have zero confidence in them not f***ing this up. The names I’ve seen us linked with for the draft are honestly very concerning. Slow, fat body bigs, and small undersized guards. I mean, for ****’s guys.
We honestly should not be working out a single player that isn’t between 6’5 and 6’8 and that defend like hell. That’s the only criteria. Shooting is a plus, but not a necessity.

I’d say 6’5” to 6’10” depending on the physical profile of the player but I concur.

Do you concur?

Concur with what sir?

Yup, and then immediately finds the spot on the floor he needs to be after he creates the space the screen was intended to get.

Either on the perimeter or to the hole to make the other defender make a decision.

Honestly impressive.

So I don't know how much this has been talked about, but I am getting jumpy about retooling this team. The debate over whether it's Donovan or Rudy's team is over (at least/especially if it's the case that there is a level of rift under the surface that's not going to fully heal and may flare up), and most of the team's offensive talent are dudes that are an annual threat to fall of a cliff and whose contract statuses are or will soon be nigh.

So what is the possibility of trading Rudy to the Cavs for the #3 pick (if Evan Mobley is there, and whatever stuff has to be done to make it work)? I know Gobert can't technically be traded until October, but I don't know if that's simply a formality or not. I think Mobley pans out and would become a perfect big as he develops (though he might have some rough times in the first season or two at his weight and if he doesn't have a perfect front court mate alongside him). The Cavs might do that because they are jumpy about fielding a respectable team again (which is enough to make the playoffs in that joke of a conference).

Would the Jazz do that? Should the Jazz do that? Would the Cavs consider it (again, assuming Mobley is there at #3)?

Yeah, I didn't mean for my salty tone to take away from what appeared to be some real positives, I, again, am just not sure what question he's answering here. But there are some positives for sure, and would theoretically provide some abilities that the Jazz don't really have (though again, might be more of a luxury than a necessity, assuming the roster doesn't change, that is...).

Interesting people mention Batum. I thought he was a lot older but he actually is younger than Conley. He would be perfect for what the Jazz are missing.

Rudy can’t be moved until October because he signed his extension. Any Rudy trade would be mid season or next offseason.
