What's new

Las Vegas Summer League thread

Sam Hauser of the Celtics is a pretty interesting undrafted rookie from Virginia. The 6-8 forward shot the 3 ball quite well today, probably something like 6-10 today. He's currently a 2 way player for them.

It will be interesting to watch all the undrafted rookies on the Heat. Maybe they have a useful piece where they don't have room.

If I had to decide right now, I'd cut Hughes, keep Brantley and give Mathias or White a 2-way.
No way they do that… Hughes is guaranteed so he’s going to be on the roster unless he’s traded. Brantley gets cut for sure imo. You don’t spend an additional 8M because you prefer Brantley to Hughes.

I’m not sure Brantley is worth further investment. He’s try-hard, and that is admirable - it’s nice to see a player effort-ing, but the trying hard doesn’t consistently result in great results, IMO. Meh, I don’t have a lot of confidence in him at this point. This may be his ceiling.

I have more confidence in Oni improving his 3% and improving his defense as an end of the bench role player. And Eliza, as long as they’re paying him, it might be worth giving him some more run before cutting him. Even Morgan has shown some decent stretches as a small 5.

Overall, debating the best end of the bench player to plug in in a pinch is a nice luxury. I’m excited for next year.

I still see 3 weaknesses for the Jazz

- Back up PG - I am hoping that Butler is the answer. Forrest seems to be a good investment so I say put a check here.

-Perimeter defense - preferably a wing - This still needs to be addressed

- A stretch big - This was addressed a little with Paschall - This could also be added too.

I think when we are looking at the 2-way contracts we should be hoping for a developmental project that could potentially fill one of these 3 holes.

White could be the stretch bid and Mathias won some collegiate awards for his D.

'Backup PG is like the strongest of strongest things for the Jazz.

They got Ingles/Mitchell who play primary backup PG and now they got Butler.

You know you can give a 2-way to someone who isnt on your SL team?

I can see White, but no way in hell should we give one to Mathias.
Just based on what a couple beat writers have mentioned I think Mathias is the default two-way if we don't find something they consider better. I am not a fan and would consider just leaving it open until after roster trimming happens and look for someone that slips through the cracks.

I don't like how they're taking away the tournament play for the summer league and having two teams with the best record of 4-0 record play for the championship on Tuesday.

I agree with Mitchell but if the rumors are true about Ingles retiring next year the Jazz has to look beyond the next couple of years. Conley might be gone in a few years

I would guess it would be like an Eric Griffin situation where they sign him a two-way and cut him mid-season when someone else standouts in the G-League or something. (or at least I think that's what happened with Griffin, I just remember the Jazz have signed 2-way guys just to cut them mid-season and sign better 2-way guys)

Well they got one of the better Point guardy type players in the draft this year so idk what to tell you based on your might and ifs years from now.
