What's new

Game Thread Nov 18, 2021 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Raptors

Yeah I've pointed out that we can field 4 legit starting caliber players off our bench. Once it all starts clicking it will be a nightmare matchup. Mixing and matching with the actual starters means we can keep a full starting lineup on the floor pretty much all all times. Now that's depth.
What about our ability to defend mobile and long players like Batum, George, MPJ, etc? Seems to me like we’ve had good depth for a while. But still lack the ability to stop dribble penetration or slow down a determined long athletic scorer. Although, Gay sure looks promising and perhaps whiteside can punish teams if they go small against us?

Wow! What an auspicious debut for Mr. Rudy Gay! And what a sweet stroke! Georges who?

When you think about how long he played in pain and now to be pain free, it's almost like getting a prime time Rudy Gay! Anyway he sure didn't look 35 from what I saw!

Like Gay said in the postgame, the regular season is practice. I like where his head is at, which seems to be on going all the way in the playoffs. His performance tonight showed he was all about doing what he was all about doing.

The Conley/Gobert bench lineup looks soooo much better with Gay in it. He adds so much size and playmaking ability. Just a perfect and much needed fit, the floor is spaced and the ball is actually moving. It's great.

Also please stop trying to make Butler happen. Let it go. We are a better team when he does not play right now. If we can win a lot of games and secure a good seed then they can throw him out during the end of the season and rest guys more. By then he might have figured out how to pass the ball.

Where does this JB can’t pass thing come from? Seriously?

JB gets more assists per minute than Forrest… it’s like because Trent doesn’t look at the rim at all that he’s some great ball mover. Because Butler is a threat to score he’s able to make meaningful passes. Made some awesome passes in preseason.

- Joe got mad, and then was good. How can we keep Joe angry?
- Rudy Gay was amazing and did so many great things besides shooting well. It doesn't look like he'll add any more athleticism to our team, but he seems to make up for it by playing smart. It looks like he's going to be taking away possessions from Clarkson, which is a good thing right now, but also Mike, which might not be great.

Since we’re talking about JC, I’d be so happy if we could get back the JC from last season. Seems to me like the pressure to maintain hiis status as best sixth man is weighing on him this season! I absolutely love this kid’s ability to pick apart the defense and flip it in down low. He’s athletic as F and his low post game is special. What I hate is his shot selection particularly from 3 and his tunnel vision to shoot rather than assist when it’s available. He’s talented but it’s like he has a screw loose somewhere and I feel like his impulsive chucking is hurting more than helping this season. Woefully bad percentages!!!

Just want to say that I really enjoy watching the Raptors play ball. They’ll be a middling team until they find a better high-usage offensive piece—but, in many ways, that doesn’t matter much to me as far as enjoyment goes.

I agree. Although I am sure, like Conley, he will have his games where he looks more geriatric. But he is a HUGE upgrade over Niang. Hell I thought Paschall had a good shot at being a better player than Niang, even if just from the energy and hustle standpoint, so to have the Niang analog as the 10th to 12th man, with a player the caliber of Gay as the true replacement, the positive impact cannot be overstated.
