Am I the only one who is feeling sad about all this?

As I think on what could have been, and the fun and exciting times we have had with this team over the past 5 years, and even before that, and then reflect on what has happened this year and the obvious outcome we are headed for, I feel at first frustration, but then I just feel sad.

It is sad that we will likely be seeing the last of this team. Frankly this was one of the most likeable and fun to root for teams in Jazz history. The players were all good people, and the camaraderie was infectious at times. The beginning of the end, imo, was trading Ingles, our heart and soul for 7 years. And the collapse was precipitous.

I know it is time to break it up, and time to move forward into something new. We just simply do not have the assets to do anything different around Rudy and Mitchell. Conley's contract continues to be an albatross. Bogey has limited value, as in it would be hard to get anything back worth what he gives us in that he is one of the few that plays hard most of the time and really seems to care. Our end of bench guys are just that, end of bench, and won't bring anything better realistically. We have no one to move and no picks to work with. We mortgaged our future 3 years ago and hinged it all on an aging borderline all-star under-sized guard who has flamed out spectacularly. We have all seen the mistakes in the roster construction, and many of us have been proven right in our criticisms of it. But little good that did. It sucks to be right and see the end coming like this, going out with a whimper and an ***-reaming.

But I enjoyed this era a lot. They gave us a lot to cheer for. For the most part we were the underdogs and that is kind of a fun position to be in. It seems as soon as we turned that corner, and became the favorites, or at least known contenders, we started to fall apart. Maybe this team just works better when they are not the favorites, who knows.

I for one will miss this era of the Jazz. Rudy was such a monster, and it was fun to have him on the team. He had so many legendary blocks and was a rebound machine unlike anything we have ever seen. And it brought me nearly endless joy seeing teams finally catching on that he is the generational defensive talent of this era, and then not even challenging him in the paint. The number of shots he not only bothered, but simply caused to never even be attempted due to his mere presence was astounding. I'm really going to miss that.

Mitchell was capable of such spectacular explosions that when they happened you had to just grin ear to ear. You knew it was coming, at some point he would flip that switch and just go into another gear and suddenly what was a 9 point first half become 29 points scored part way into the 4th quarter. It was awe-inspiring to watch much of the time. I'm going to miss that.

It is obvious from all this we need to move one of Rudy or Mitchell, or more likely both, as there is literally no way to do anything different on the edges around them. So it is kind of sad to say goodbye to this iteration of the franchise.

But in the end, I am a Jazz fan, not necessarily a Mitchell/Gobert fan. I wish them both luck wherever they end up, and I really wish we could find some miracle way to surround them with better talent and keep them here, with a new coach and new philosophy, to see where they can take us with competent FO management. But in all likelihood this is the end.

So with all of the frustration and irritation, I find myself just sad to see it all go.

As some other fellow poster said, we were so close... but Jazz brass made a full lot of not little mistakes.
That said, I'm not going to be mad with our players or coaches. I enjoyed them and wish them good luck.
Something new is looming. Isn't it the way of all things?

Yeah nice man. I think we should offer like @oneye as a human sacrifice to the goddess earth mother or something for the rebirth of this team.

Its ****ing over, we're all sad, we could have been a contender, we could have been somebody, instead we're nobody. Just a pack of bums.

I’m not sad, just tired. This is the least fun I’ve had watching the jazz. It’s gotten so bad that my wife has had me on suicide watch lol.

I’m just ready to start over. I for sure want DM, Conley, and Bogey gone. If we can affectively get enough assets from trading those players great, but I fear we will need to trade Gobert as good as he’s been if it means being successful in reshaping and building this team up affectively.

Disagree. One of the most in likeable jazz teams ever. I even liked the big Al/ Millsap jazz more than this

I'm more frustrated than sad.

I was sad watching Stockton check out for the final time vs the Kings in 2003 knowing that era was finally coming to an end without a NBA title. There were a lot of painful losses but the competitiveness of that team was never in doubt, even in series where they were outmatched by better or younger teams.

I was also sad when everything blew up after the Bulls game in 2011 and Jerry resigned. That era was always a what if, wrecked by Pau Gasol and the Lakers. But I never got the feeling, at least outside 2009's fluke regression to 8th, that those Jazz teams ever underperformed. They had some good playoff wins, including a trip to the WCF and a really energetic series vs the Lakers in 2008.

Then who could forget that Denver series in 2011? Jazz had no business winning that, especially when Okur went out in like game one.

This era? It feels hollow and uninspired. The talent was there to do way more damage in the postseason than they ever did but for whatever reason, it just didn't happen. The last truly great series was 2018's Thunder series but that was followed up by a listless performance against Houston.

Everything since game six of that series has been a chore - from nearly getting swept by Houston in 2019, to blowing a 3-1 lead vs Denver in 2020 to last year's playoff collapse... to whatever the hell this performance is.

I'm not sad. I'm frustrated. These last three playoffs have been the most frustrating I've experienced as a fan. That's not to say I haven't been disappointed in the past but nothing quite like the frustration I've felt watching Utah piss away golden opportunity after golden opportunity to do something memorable (in a good way, as they've certainly done so in a bad one) in the postseason.

Sad? No. Frustrated? Absolutely.

Yeah but is it really over? I feel like when the dust has settled we might be minus one Quin Snyder and one Donovan Mitchell and that's about it. This team never goes full rebuild! It's actually one of the things I really like about this team is it's integrity - loyalty to the players and staff and refusal to tank for lottery picks under any circumstances! No chicanery, no scamming the fans - I love that, I really do! It might be in our best interest to jettison Conley and possibly Gobert as well, but I'm not sure that there is an ample market. We seem to have a lot of overpriced talent.

But even if it is just Snyder and Mitchell, yeah there's a side of me that will experience that separation anxiety thing particularly with Mitch. They both seem like cool guys to hang out with, but we've heard the stories associated with Snyder and Mitchell also has been associated or suspected of harboring hidden agendas. But performance wise (it is a business after all), they just ain't getting the job done! Mitchell ain't getting any better folks - he doesn't exactly fit the prototype for team leader, Superstar in my view.

Ingles for me is an afterthought and not a reason for our decline. He himself had declined, no surprise considering all the Iron Man consecutive minutes he'd given us over the years! Bring him back as an assistant coach, he'd be great with the players and provide the press with plenty of zingers I'm sure.

Sad that is too funny. I feel sad for the fans who have to watch this team show little heart this season. IF they actually played harder for the whole game and lost then I would feel bad. Hard to feel bad for guys making millions to play basketball for a living. I hope they can turn it around but they are going to need to find their heart and their shot if they want to do so.

I'm not sad. I think we had good times with this group. Didn't win it all... which sucks... likely didn't get anywhere near their ceiling but still fun times. I was sad when Joe got hurt and traded... that felt like the death knell. Nothing lasts forever and windows are shorter than ever unless you get a generational talent to stay for a long time.

Ultimately whatever happens I will wish good things for any players traded and still root for guys like Ricky and Jae that were on prior iterations.

I think if everyone was truthful and transparent it would be better for everyone to start new (assuming we can do well in trades for Rudy, Donovan, and the other vets).

I don’t know how watching this team over and over just fold and show a lack of effort doesn’t cause you to totally despise them. There was the “the strength of our team is our team” quote from Quin about the Rubio led Jazz team…well…..the reason this team hasn’t succeeded is the team. There are no leaders here from Quin, to Donovan, to Rudy. I’m just of the opinion Donovan is the main guy who helped harbor such a toxic circumstance. I won’t miss them, in fact I’ll be really glad when the offseason is officially here. I’m fine with Rudy succeeding if traded, I hope Donovan rots with the Knicks.

I stopped feeling sad about sports long ago. Life has way too many other important elements for me to shed a tear over basketball.

Do I want the Jazz to win? Absolutely, but it doesn't make my bank account bigger, give me less to do at work or anything for my ailing knees.

I'm disappointed that we have to go back to the drawing board with the realization that we probably are another five years away from competing once again if we decide to hit the reset button. I'm disappointed that I may never see a Jazz championship in my lifetime.

You're the one harboring a toxic circumstance on this forum.

You're loving this. You would rather see us crash and burn so you can "get your flowers".

Go away. You aren't a true Jazz fan.

I think we’ll win game 6.
No way... I think some of the guys have cleared their lockers and others have booked vacations for this weekend.

You’re not a Jazz fan, you’re a Donovan stan. I am a Jazz fan, and sure I’m being proven more and more right.

I've been a Jazz fan since before you were in diapers.

Right about what? Your whole bull crap narrative has been that we are struggling because Don is a diva. That isn't the case at all. The team is unified but just lacks the talent, coaching and roster composition to compete in the modern playoffs.

If he gets sent out, it's because the entire team (FO, Coaching, and Players) failed at taking the next step NOT because he's a diva and asking out. You ain't right about ****.
