That's the hope of course, but there's hope both ways. When you're tanking, you have zero pressure to win in the moment and hope is infinite. If you win a game, you won. If you lost, you win anyways. When you're actually trying to win, you have to do it and anything short of winning is extra frustrating.
Personally, I will take it to the grave that the previous version of the Jazz did not fail because of Mitchell and Gobert, but the team built around them. No they are not perfect, but the execution to build around them was horrific and downright embarrassing. It would have been a longshot to build a true contender around them, especially after all the mistakes that were made, but tanking for a title is also a longshot. If I was a GM and I didn't believe I sucked, I would have definitely held onto those two. But I also wouldn't have done the horrid management job that we saw the last couple of seasons.
