Yeah and as long as we have Donovan we can’t really trade away guys like Beverly or Bojan and tip our hand that we’re going full tank moss because then we lose leverage on a Don deal

We don't lose leverage at all. It doesn't matter if teams know we are tanking because if you assemble a poor enough roster around Mitchell we could keep him and still be in position for a top 5 pick. I wouldn't be shocked to see Mitchell put up 30pts a game this next year and you better believe that is going to maintain his trade value. If Mitchell is putting up Beal type numbers then there will be a few teams that are willing to go all in on a huge offer for him.

If that is the case then we should be pushing to get that one done sooner than later. It shouldn't be the case though. If the trades are meh... then sure be super patient and make Knicks sweat.

Tony said there is one deal in particular that he knows of...a team is willing to make an offer for some of the Jazz's vets and the Jazz aren't averse to making the deal, but they can't make that deal until they know if Donovan is going to be on the roster or not. He says if Donovan is gone then it makes sense to do the deal and go all in on young guys but if Don is still on the roster, then they will likely keep some of the vets and try to be competitive next season.

Which is so dumb… just do both deals. Thanks for passing it along. If it’s the Lakers deal those picks will end up better than the Knicks picks anyway… settle for 75%-85% of your huge asking price and make up the difference by offloading vets and improve your pick from late lotto to top 5. Hope Tony is wrong and that isn’t how we are playing this.

My "Ainge almost traded" senses are tingling.
 
Am I the only one who finds it amusing when Knick fans say that eventually Donovan will go to Ainge and request a trade, and that's when they'll have the all the leverage? It would be like if I decided to sell my house, put it on the market, and placed a "For Sale" sign in my yard. Then as potential buyers were walking through the open house, my wife came up to me and said, "I want to move."

I mean, imagine how that conversation would actually go down:

Donovan to Ainge: "I would like to be traded"

Ainge to Donovan: "Ummmm, have you been under a rock for the past month??"

if the jazz are planning on tanking, then why does it matter if they trade Don or not?

I know it's not you saying this but competitive with what? This team is going nowhere but a possible play in with this current roster which every win only hurts the team. The window with Donovan is extremely short. Rebuilding around him will take 2 years at the very least, then he'll be gone.

My sense from listening to Tony (and who knows if he's giving his own POV, or relaying something he's been told from the Jazz FO) is that:

-The Jazz have three FRPs in this coming year's draft (likely an historically strong draft). Those are assets (maybe combined with additional assets that the Jazz now have) that could hasten a re-tuning of the roster. Though he didn't say it, I think the implication was that making these available through trade could net a good win-now asset back.
-Some rebalancing of the roster now in the meantime could be enough to keep the Jazz semi-competitive until then.
-(That's about all I got)

Just more smoke from Ainge. "Oh yeah, and if it falls through we're going to keep DM and reload."

Dolan is already losing sleep over this trade. It is a matter of time before he asserts himself on its progress.

IMO if Donovan asks for a trade and specifies NYK as prefered destination we will file tampering chargers with the league against NYK. That has to be part of the considerations for all 3 parties to this potential deal.
