Lakers-Jazz Trade

Here's the most cap friendly trade with the Lakers. This allows them to sign Kyrie next year. Great shooting from Bogey and Conley. Defensive guard in NAW, promising young scoring PG in Butler, and Good Rebounding/Defensive big in Whiteside. Only Conley is partially guaranteed and can be stretched/waived next year to make room for Kyrie.

Bogey, Conley, NAW, Jared Butler, Whiteside (sign and trade for the minimum? - maybe drop this but they need good Center depth)
for Westbrook + 1 unprotected 1st pick + 2 x 2nds (or all their 2nds for forever - they can be super valuable post Lebron years)

Whiteside gonna want some fancy accessories for his Hummer to sign and trade for the minimum. There is no incentive for him, or the Lakers.

You are right. It is three years too I believe. He can just sign with them directly.

They keep one of their 1sts. We keep Clarkson and Beasley who we would trade to a contender in season. Lakers can then sign another player next year to Max/Super Max.

If waive Westbrook right away then we have soom room to absorb a contract for more picks.

if the Jazz did that deal and then rerouted Nunn and some 2nds to a 3rd team they’d actually save $2 million this year as well.

Are you trying to say a player option would be attractive for the Lakers?

They may still want Clarkson (I don't really have a good read on what they ultimately want), but I highly doubt the player option makes him more attractive in any way. Plus, there's still the issue of Clarkson and Beasley being highly redundant both positionally and role-wise.

I’m thinking they could convince him to opt out then re-sign him if needed.

You tell him that he would be waived and stretched and will get his money over 5 years instead of it after he resigns. Plus he would get more money from LuLu Lemon and other sponsors if he stays in LA.
 
Maybe the lakers could convince Conley to retire after next year if they win the title???

Let's imagine that the Lakers are 100% serious that the only way they'll move Westbrook is to have clean books guaranteed next year (I don't know if it's the correct assumption, but I think there's a non-zero chance it could be.)

What would you think of this trade (I'm proposing it because I don't think anything else we can really offer would have a realistic chance of getting the Lakers' 2 unprotected firsts, especially if they won't take on 2023-24 salary)

Jazz in: Westbook, Garrett Temple (Lakers could take him if they want, but that would just increase their luxury tax), Lakers 2 unprotected firsts
Jazz out: Bogey, Vanderbilt, Beasley, Clarkson

Lakers in: Bogey, Beasley, Larry Nance Jr.
Lakers out: Westbrook

Pelicans in: Clarkson, Vanderbilt
Pelicans out: Larry Nance Jr, Garrett Temple

Is that too rich for the 2 unprotected firsts? Pelicans would likely get a talent increase, but would it be enough to have them send something (like a 2nd our way), or do you think they're fine with the players/roles they have? Would they even participate in something that helped the Lakers?

Do they not need shooting guards? And if their goal is to not have salary, then a player on a player options is absolutely lower odds than if he were guaranteed. And Vanderbilt.

Eyes on the prize.
 
I would settle for Lakers pick swaps as essentially giving 85% of the value. May not ultimately end up that way, but for the purpose of closing a deal, I’d use that reference (or higher) to get in there and get out.
