2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Haven’t really kept up with this thread and can’t go through it all, so apologies if this has already been discussed to death. Saw Anthony Black mentioned a couple of times above and watched some video. Liked what I saw and really like the idea of a big point guard after having an undersized backcourt for so long. What’s the consensus on him here?

I just watched him recently so I’ll give my take.

First off he’s on a STACKED team talent wise. Hard to have that many dudes looking to make their mark and get a good draft position.

He had some really strong games in Maui and as he’s gotten into conf play he’s been up and down.

But, the kid has a lot of tools. Fantastic court vision, always looking for the easy bucket when the balls in his hands. Elite size and a plus athlete. Active on D.

Biggest knock is inconsistent shooting/impact on games.

I really came away impressed after watching a lot of game film last night.

What ended up being the final straw for me as far as being all in on him... he is a ****ing hooper who works. There was someone telling a story of him finishing like USA basketball and being right back at some camp a couple days later... something he apparently pressured NSJ into.

I just see like a strong *** Lonzo type player if he can figure out the shooting. Just has so much stuff we need.

Can you imagine Black at 6'7" and then Lauri and Kessler protecting the paint? Add some basic defenders in between and **** gonna be locked up.

That was what I was thinking too, so for now he’s my guy. Haven’t seen enough to properly judge his shooting, but his shot looks pretty fluent. Low release, but otherwise looked good in the footage I saw. Besides, Lonzo learned to shoot pretty well too a year or two into his NBA career.

Looks more athletic though. But maybe I forgot what Lonzo is like, since he’s been out so long.
I'd say a better athlete for sure... likely not as good of a passer though.

Black is one of the top players in the jazz range.

I like reece beekman too, from virginia. Solid defender at 6'3". Decent shooter 47% from 3. Good passer. Runs the team well. Been sharing pg duties with a senior.

lonzo was a great shooter coming out of UCLA. one of my concerns with black is not only his ability to shoot, but his ability to get his shot off. he has sort of a low release set shot. i like black a lot as a prospect, but i question his ability to both hit consistently and get his shot consistently unassisted.

Lonzo had to rework his jumper though to make it work in the NBA... it was really wonky. I think Black will work on it and be a good catch and shoot guy at least.

How’s this for an unrealistic, could MAYBE happen, probably zero chance to happen, but like maybe (?) draft for us?

I’ll go search for a wet dream gif

I hate comparing guys like Black to Lonzo just because the deep 3 ball was such a huge part to what Lonzo did that it's hard to compare anyone who doesnt have that in their game to him.

I dont consider guys like Black to be PG's. Guys his size rarely ever are good enough at ball-handling to be full-time on ball guards at the NBA level. He's probably going to be a swiss army knife type connector, a guy who does a bit of everything and plays all over the court.

Its shades of Lonzo/Giddey to me... that is the player type. May not be a full time "creator" and you can run them with another pg for sure.
