Could you / would you parlay Westbrook?

Name them. I've looked at the list, have you? I hope you know that when I listed those two guys, they were not literally the only two possibilities I had thought of. We can't just put an ultimatum out there that we can't ruin our cap space without considering what we could actually do with the cap space. There are only a handful of guys where you can say it's reasonable that we could convince them to sign here, and I would also value the contract we'd give them more than a first round pick.

If you want to say that the cap space is super important, tell us what the plan is and why it's actually realistic to get done.
I've looked at the list too... Grant Williams, Cam Johnson, Naz Reid, Jalen McDaniels, PJ Washington, Kuzma, Hart, Grant, Strus... those are off the top of the dome. You can also make uneven trades for good players... its just weird to say "unless we sign one of these two guys or take salary dumps the cap space is wasted".

I hope not cuz I just can't stand the guy but the price would be Simmons/DFS and two of the unprotected picks they now own... or they can eff off.

The price would be Simmons and Seth Curry or Patty Mills with no draft pick compensation. Please make it happen. We are the perfect team for Simmons to get his game back with. No expectations so he can work through his mental block.

Point is, have a plan to use that space. If you took that as me literally saying there are only two guys my bad. But I don’t have high hopes for our cap space. Certainly not the ultimatum some have made it out to be.

Rehab Simmons' value. Give it a year from now. Either he's good and you want to keep him or... imagine if you even could get a return of 75% of what his value used to be? Or even 50%? That's a huge return. Obviously there's risk with him not regaining his value, but that'd be huge to parlay Simmons into any kind of possible return of his previous value. It'd be humongous getting that at the cost of a guy we were going to buy out.

Its not a panacea but its also not useless like some say. Like everything you have to have a plan of course... but the plan isn't just one or two guys... its to be opportunistic.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is a solid move if we’re acquiring assets and looking toward the future instead of the immediate.

So why doesn't the Nets just wait for Westbrook to be bought out then go get him wihtout having to trade Simmons? Is that not possible?

It was reported that the Celtics and Ainge had interest in Simmons two trade deadlines ago. I could see him doing it if the draft compensation was right.

If the Nets were open to that in the first place, I don’t see why they wouldn’t just work with the Lakers initially. Didn’t hear a peep about Durant in any of those deals.

I would need 3 picks... its 100% dead money to me. I would hate the side show associated with rehabbing his value. He's not someone I'd want in my locker room. Even at three picks I'd be pissed we did it... how much money would I have to give you to have treatable Cancer?

What has a higher chance:

Ben Simmons back and mental health returns to normal and he is very good again

Lonzo Ball's knee recovers and he is very good again.

Probably Ben Simmons being good again. I think Utah would actually be good for him. No expectations and it is low-key.
