2023 NBA Draft Megathread

If you like JHS more than anyone else in that range and don’t think he makes it to 16 you either take him at 9 or trade back a couple of spots to where you think you could still get him.
I have a feeling he basically just copied Givony’s latest mock that had us picking JHS at #9.

For me the issue is quitting a workout to smoke weed in the locker room of the organization hosting you.

I give zero ****s about people smoking weed in their off time.
I guess I didn't hear that part. Does this have any depth to it, or just rumor? I still wouldn't take an 18 year old with premier talent off the board for it.

What he said makes no sense.. that JHS could crack the top 10 or drop down to the 15-18 range.

Um.. if he could be there at 15-18, why the reach?

I get it though if you’re not a Jazz fan and you look at our roster, one could be forgiven for thinking “You guys need a point guard” and just picks the BPA point guard.
Hes BPA period. He's the best shot creator for himself and others in our draft range.

They get the least favorable pick out of these in 2024:

1st-round pick (OKC)
1st-round pick (LAC)
1st-round pick protected 1-4 (HOU)
1st-round pick protected 1-10 (UTA)

I would definitely trade 28 for that pick straight across. Not sure if Denver does it but they could package 28/37 to move up even more.

I wouldn’t… next years draft is supposedly trash… have heard it from multiple draft experts… lots of good dudes available and we need as many bites at the apple as we can this year.

So right now I am feeling: #9 Walker or Hendericks #16 Best PG available JHS, Bufkin or Wallace, #28 either trade back if there are a bunch of guys you like or pick BPA. If GG is still there and his attitude isn't as bad as being reported, then I take a swing with him. I wouldn't trade for a 2024 pick if the draft sucks. Plus you lose a year of development pushing the pick to next year. Jazz can use their cap space next year instead of adding a player through the draft. Defensive ability is important to me so drafting players who can play some defense is more important than guys who only score.

That is bad logic. Chances are the pick is higher than 28 and we don’t own a pick next year most likely.
It’s sound logic. A prospect this year is a year ahead of whoever we draft next year. We need a guy on Lauris timeline and the clock is ticking. The pick would have to be like late teens to even be worth it just on timing… factor in that it will be a worse draft… nah. We can get in next years draft if there is something we like.

Uhh, that's you guessing. Not all rookies are in the same development timeline. All rookies are in the same contract timeline though and it's smart to have these things spread out.

You're were a tank guy because the math says the higher the pick the more likely they are a game changer, but you want to ignore that on the 28th pick?

And again, draft experts can only forecast top end talent (like who is going to be a super star). They have no idea of knowing how much depth a class will have until games start being played.

No one knew who Taylor ****ing Hendricks was before the season started. You of all people should realize who ridiculous talking about draft quality this far back can be.

I could see this as an option if they can't find a way to trade up that makes sense.

Tanking to get a top 5 pick is different than maneuvering to go from 28 to maybe 19/20… where the difference historically isn’t that great but nice try.

Every rookie has a transition period and yes some are more ready than others but I’m comfortable with my position that a guy drafted at 28 this year is going to be a year ahead of schedule from a guy drafted late teens early 20s next year. And if we want a pick in that range next year we can easily get it. Get someone in the program now and you’ll have a year to see if you have something.

It might be some group think but sometimes when enough people say stuff you can believe it… you don’t have to do your contrarian bull **** on everything. When dudes have said it they have quite literally said it’s not just top end… they think the depth is not there either. They have the ability to scout a lot of dudes… not just top end guys. Some classes suck… it happens. I think this class is damn good… give me the pick this year thx.

We also don’t know what the protections are on that pick Denver got… the trade has not happened yet and I’m guessing won’t be completed until the new year unless Denver amended protections on the one pick they already owe. It’s complicated… but just trust me here… there are some more details we’d want.

It’s the lesser of the four picks they have. It’s not that complicated. You’re way overthinking this.
