2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I get the NBA being seemingly lower on Miller.

His shot is hideous. He shot a decent %, but it being decent felt flukey. Everything about his game is bit odd looking and clunky.

You can explain away his numbers as being he was the only relevant big man on the Ignite this year so him getting #'s was basically a given. I dont think NBA teams are really valuing G-League stats, right or wrong, so the aesthetics of his game are going to be judged more than the stats.

I also think him look absolutely awful in last year's combine scrimmages probably left a bad first impression with a lot of teams.
The flip side is how much he improved last year. Barlowe mentioned that he was the worst player at the combine last year and that his growth between then and now is a selling point. And I would agree.

That's pretty questionable. The best college bigs are going overseas or getting in the NBA. Bigs are in such high demand overseas it leads to a pretty scant talent pool in the G-League.
I don't think its questionable at all... plenty of nba guys on two ways down there and grown ups still trying to make the league. They bigs are spread across 30 teams not 300 or however many college teams. Overall on an average basis I am very comfortable saying the G league bigs are better than the college bigs. There are nights you are seeing some tough bigs but you have to average that out with the nights they see the 6-6 center from "Where the Eff Tech".

There's a lot of grown ups in college basketball too. I think undeniably the top 10 best college bigs are better than the top 10 G-League bigs (sans the occasional highly ranked rookie who is sent on a call down)

I think the biggest thing for me is that he adapted his game from this pie in the sky concept of a point forward into a serviceable big, which is nice, but at the same time doesnt do a lot for how I view his upside.

Who's better?

Zach Edey or any player from this list of top rebounders from the G_League?

I mean I don't know... but Kabengele put up 25/11/3 per 40 5 years ago in college... now he's a grown *** man... You are going against Zach Edey and a **** ton of other guys... there might be 30 bigs that are better than these 30 bigs... but they are spread out across a ton of teams.

We need to get one of Cam/Black/Jarace/Hendricks. Ausar would be underwhelming. I’m honestly to the point where I probably would prefer Cason over him.

I really wonder if the Jazz are willing to deal Sexton and if any of these teams value Sexton. I could see New Orleans saying "Hey, we need a PG and we need some other players who can create offense" and convincing themselves Sexton could be that guy for them. Same with the Raptors if they dont want a full-rebuild and would rather just re-tool and need a cheaper PG option than FVV.
And I'm not in some big hurry to trade Sexton anymore, but if the overwhelming intel is that the Jazz are going to re-sign Clarkson to a good contract, it makes sense to sell on Sexton if you can get someone you are high on in the draft (especially if that player is a guard)

Seems like most of the mocks the past couple of days have the Jazz getting Ausar...which would be absolutely fine with me.
I would be quite excited about that. Those kids have crazy bodies and talent but his shot isn’t broken. He went from 22% from 3 on 2 attempts last year to 33% on 5 attempts this year. Pretty impressive improvement and the mechanics LOOK workable.

Yes and a top prospect might play 5 games against those bigs... Miller is going against a higher average quality of big. You'd have to have like 5x the depth in college as its spread out across many more teams.

I am all in on doing what needs to be done to land Cam or Walker. Worst case scenario, Hendricks. Thats all.

There are a bunch of players who would be fine at 16. No need to move that pick UNLESS its the only way to grab Cam or Walker.

That is all.

I honestly don’t get the hype with the twins… hot take I know. They were ranked in the 20’s in HS and didn’t even dominate against subpar competition but yet they’re somehow top-10 locks? Don’t see it. Someone explain that to me.

Okay but does that mean that upside no longer exists? I would argue the opposite in that he learned how to be a big in a year. I don’t think him expanding his game erases his base.

There are 30 g league teams... 360 college teams... Take the top 50 bigs from college basketball compared to the top 50 in the g league and I'd go ahead and guess the g league's are as good or better... and they aren't spread over 12x as many teams.

They jump real high man... like really high.

I just think whatever upside he has is rooted in energy big who rebounds/hustle/gets easy baskets, not a 3pt shot or creating half-court offense.

They are insane athletes and specimens. The entire package in that regard. There’s running and jumping, but then there’s the effortlessness and the smoothness. They obviously have basketball talent.

Amen scares the **** out of me but I think Ausar is more than worthy bet at #9 since he already plays off ball and is a much better shooter. He’s less impressive with the ball in his hands and as an athlete, but that’s a tradeoff I take.
