Why would they do that? Indiana has cap space. If THT wanted to be there and Indiana really want to sign him, they’d simply sign him outright.

Some of us think that THT came with picks... using him to move up the draft a couple spots is the galaxy brain double downpayment.

while I think Sexton could have started as a marriage of convenience... I would think the work ethic/attitude has endeared him to the front office as they have seen it up close and personal. It would be hard for me to see the Sexton stuff this offseason, sending him to the draft, etc. and then see him moved. If an AMAZING deal came then maybe... its a business... but to move up 2 spots... nah.

They can't just sign him if he opts-in. And they might also wanna try before they buy. They might also be looking for an excuse to not draft three 1sts (they are rumored to be shopping their late picks).

Yeah, I think them putting him at the front of the team signals that they're not actually shopping them.

DA is the coldest mother-****er in the NBA though so maybe it is exactly them shopping him.

Fair enough, but they won’t mss as KD a bad deal because they don’t have to. Jazz have little to know leverage in this transaction - unless THT opts in. I just doubt he would if the plan is to get him to Indiana.

they also may want to preserve a lot of space and move a deal like Theis' contract or something.

It would just seem so unnecessary. Like the Jae Crowder stuff was unfortunate but DA didn't kill his mom... right?.... right?!?!?

Tbh though, Sexton doesn’t really do what DA guards typically do. He’s a sparkplug on offense and limited on defense. Tries hard, but not great at it at it. He is scrappy, and that’s definitely a trait that DA values. I just think Collin is going to get traded this year at the deadline or next offseason when the Jazz finally go big game hunting. Maybe around the draft or leading into the season if an opportunity arises.

There were reports that Ainge wanted to trade for Sexton before the Mitchell trade was on the table. I think they really wanted him. Now, no idea what their opinion is one year later but at the time I don't think Sexton was just a salary filler for Ainge.

Great point... the were Sexton rumors before it made any sense.

Yeah, this is another one that points to Ainge actually having long-term plans for Sexton at the time. When I'm thinking about it... I am actually closer to doubting that report now than believing it. Not that he's some untouchable player for us, but I doubt we are actively shopping him.... unless there are negative things about him behind the scenes.
 
The situation where we trade Sexton is if there is something really good on the table... and we know JC wants to come back and is on a better value deal. If Dallas offered the 10th pick that's the type of deal I could see us doing.

Yeah, if it’s just Sexton for 10 but not Sexton and 16.

Exactly, the revisionist history is getting a little crazy.
 
JC's player option deadline is on the 29th, something to keep an eye out for. GTJ unexpectedly opted in, the market is not good for FA's.
