Ceiling is a made up concept to begin with and I think we 1) evaluate it incorrectly and 2) we put too much stock into it. I do think this perceived ceiling gap is probably being oversold. I've been on the Bilal train for awhile, but I've also been saying his most likely outcomes is something along the lines of a Herb Jones or Jaden McDaniels....in other words he will be the player in the NBA that he was for Mets (~15% usage guy). But that's also a reason I like him. I like the guys who have a role if not everything pans out, but do give you some reason to believe they could be much more. Hendricks could and probably should be in that category as well, but there's just something off about his feel/touch that gives me pause. I could be too critical...
If you totally throw out Bilal's youth stuff....meh I don't really blame you. I also think the level of competition and environment itself is also much different in the French league versus college. Not saying you're doing this, but I think it's a little unfair to totally dismiss the youth league without respecting the level of competition in the French League, especially the playoffs. For me, I don't toss the youth stuff completely out. Maybe if we didn't see flashes of it materializing during the playoffs I'd be more dismissive about it, but it was definitely a good sign that 1) he was trusted to do more in the playoffs and 2) it worked out pretty well.
If it was the case that Hendricks was some kind of crazy point forward in HS who used to play PG and had only recently blown up to 6'10.....that's my version of "he played a bunch of sports" lol. Not totally rational, but it's a bias I have. Gonna be honest though, this Cam injury stuff has spooked me enough that I'd feel better if Hendricks fell than Cam.
