What's new

2023 NBA Free Agency Thread

Got ya, is there anyone out there’s we’d want to sign at the moment?

That’s a good question, I was just came back from hiking a mountain so I’m still catching up on everything. I missed a lot of news in that one day haha.

I think it gets interesting once other moves are made. For example, if we trade two of our rotation guys for one and that opens up a spot for someone else we can get with the room exception. Maybe we wait on Lowry to get traded/bought out and we give him the full room MLE to be our starting PG next year.

I think if you can nab someone for the room exception that projects to be a good value on a 1+1 contract… if not I think we do end up making a trade. You’d want to finalize the JC extension first just in case you took a bit more salary in.

Not looking at a list I think Oubre might be the best candidate for something like that.

Does Oubre want to get on a roster where he isn't a starter though?

I wouldn’t mind that….although with Oubre that’s probably a player option year 2….but that’s fine.

I like Derick Jones Jr a lot as well, but with Hendricks and Collins we could probably pass on him.

Maybe Jayden Nowell? Had a disappointing year where forgot how to shoot but maybe he can bounce back.

It would kind of be hilarious get get Beasley back lol.

No but you are betting on his options being limited… I think the Hornets likely try and keep him for something cheap.

I like Nowell but watched the Wolves last year and I was like… nah I’m good.

Just looked at a list… guys I’d have interest in with all or part of the room exception…

Paul Reed, Ayo Dosunmu, Thybulle, Banton, Winslow…

Ayo may be the guy I’m most interested in with the full room exception. Might be pretty good outside of that cluster F in Chicago. They might match but have a lot of mid salary tied to guards.

Realistically, there's no reason to believe that Banton is any better than THT but I wouldn't mind giving him a flyer. He is the goofiest player in the league lol.

You probably could get him on a multiyear/non guaranteed contract. I would probably prioritize the guys we can could get on these types of deals even if they aren’t the best names on the list.

I just it hard to take on a very young project who is clearly worse than your current young projects. Ayo is interesting, but he isn't clearly more talent d than George, Sexton, or THT and he doesn't have a complimentary skillset to our roster.

Ehhhh he’s a perimeter defender that can be the game manager type. One of Sexton, THT, gonna be gone and Dunn is a one year dude who has never had the best injury luck. It’s a value play and he’s big enough to play some 2/3… give him Ochais minutes lol.

Paul Reed would be fun as a weirdo backup center…

I’m still looking more to the trade market on a guy like Quickley. I think if you get him and offer a 5 year extension he could end up being a tremendous long term value. You could starte it high and have it descend by 8% per year. New cba allows rookie extensions to all be 5 years not just designated players. Having a guy locked up for 5 years in a cap environment that goes up 10% each year is a huge value play. As long as the guy is healthy he will likely be a positive contract if you get them at a decent number for todays cap. Like it might seem like 25M is a little steep for IQ right now but when the cap is 120-150% of what it is right now it equivalent to 15-20Mish.

I'm not a Quickly guy. Not that I'n against him, but I just don't know too much.

As someone who is a Quickly guy, why was he *** in the playoffs?
