Trade ideas

Who do you think could make a better offer than that? The beauty of that trade is we get picks from a different team so it doesn't matter how good Lauri makes them. Those 27 and 29 suns pick could be gold. Even the 25 pick could have a decent chance at being a borderline lottery pick with the injury history of Durant. The only team that I think could beat that offer is the thunder but they may not have interest since Holmgren is primed to play the same role as Lauri.
OKC would be the first thought. Lauri and Chet are a great duo in the front court.

I just think the offer has to be really good. I think we could get 3 picks and a mid prospect next summer… if we are doing it early there needs to be a big premium. OKC/GS/SA/BKN/Tor/NY could all put together intriguing packages.

Other teams 3 picks aren't created equal. The suns picks could be special. Maybe we could pry Clowney from them as well but I still think that is a damn good offer. I don't think GS, SA, Tor or NY can come close to that offer. OKC may come at us strong though if we made him available.

Yeah, we're approaching the point where you start seeing headlines like "NBA teams are monitoring the Lauri Markkanen situation". In other words, the vultures gather.

Making Lauri available would kickstart a massive bidding war. Maybe even bigger than the one you typically get for disgruntled superstars wanting out, because even with his next (max) contract, its so much easier to acquire Markkanen and he fits better into existing team frameworks.

I believe contenders would be especially likely to make offers. Teams have seen that Lauri isn't the type of leader who will carry a rebuilding team to paradise on his back, but you can slot him into any lineup, to play with any superstar.

GS picks could be juicy… they could offer at least two plus multiple swaps… Kuminga is more intriguing than Whitehead for me. Toronto can do their own picks plus send Siakham out to a third team for picks. NY has a bunch of garbage picks and their own picks. SA has the Hawks picks and a Toronto pick plus their own.

I don’t think the Brooklyn offer is bad… just not enough to make me move him now. We are already bad enough to tank imo. So can wait if we get good fair offers… I’d want an unfair offer if it’s this year.

NO is other option. Daniels plus they still have LA and Mil picks. They could also move Ingram in a three team setup.

I think there would be like 15 teams with legitimate interest.

I really like Kuminga but I love Whitehead if his foot all good. He has the potential to be really good and I love his size and shooting ability. The big thing for me is that I put a premium on those suns picks more than any other teams picks.

If you are just talking interest then 29 teams would have interest. Maybe 15 would seriously consider it, and maybe 7-8 could muster reasonable assets to make legitimate offers. Out of that, you would easily get 3-4 heavy, near-Gobert level trade offers. I could see 3 or more picks and a few young players and swaps even in the winning deal.

That said, I would vote for seeing where this is going. If they actually trade Lauri it tells me they had no plan other than asset accumulation for accumulation's sake. My bet is we see a consolidation trade by the trade deadline. It might make us temporarily worse. It might constitute a tanking move. But with an eye to quick improvement in the next year or 2 to keep Lauri around and build around him. I think Collins time here is limited, and he will be flipped as part of it. I could see Kessler being moved, as well as Sexton. Really the only untouchable I see is Lauri. I doubt we move any of the young guys on small contracts, so we hold onto Keyonte, who needs more minutes. Otherwise wouldn't be surprised to see anyone else moved.

No matter what though, we are going to suck for 2 more years most likely, maybe 3. Unless we all get shocked and that consolidation trade nets us an all-star to pair with Lauri. Could happen.

But I would not be in any hurry to dump Lauri.

The Jazz really can't make it work and we have to trade Lauri. What am I reading? We just have to make decisive moves with the supporting cast and let Keynote give it a try. I don't care if he is a rookie.

Giddey might be an interesting headliner in an OKC trade package. Now that OKC is playing to win, it’s hard to ignore that Giddey and Shai are not the best fit. They are also small around Chet, and while I love Chet, he is not massive in the way that Rudy was where you can put four smalls around him. Shai-Dort-Jalen-Lauri-Chet is a freaking incredible lineup.

Right and they have infinity picks so if it’s a juicy fit I can see them overpaying. If I am doing a Lauri trade this year it won’t be fair… it will be one that raises eyebrows and makes Bill Simmons have an aneurysm.

And if we didn’t want Giddy you can sell him off at a pretty high price. IF OKC was going to push chips in it would be for a guy like Lauri imo.

Crap I just posted something similar regarding Lauri in the "tank thread." It's becoming real obvious this team is set up to fail.

Giddey is just 21. I think the Jazz could build around him and Key. It would actually be nice to have some bigger playmakers to build around. OKC would need to cough up that Houston '24 FRP (top 4 protected) and our pick back to really tempt me to consider it. OKC has such a warchest of picks and incredible young players such as SGA/J. Williams but realistically they are going to need another talented big next to Chet to counter Wemby as long as he's in San Antonio.

Typically Lauri isn't the type you want to deal at all but the fact is he's in his prime and should be competing in the playoffs meanwhile the Jazz are just on a different timeline, to put it nicely.

I see the Giddey stuff is gaining traction, welcome to the bandwagon, but I'm driving.

It derivative now, but I'm gonna make the post I planned to make anyway:

Simmons was running through all the teams, his OKC notes were "Stop messing around and go get a big man" and talking about how the Giddey fit doesn't seem to be working with the rest of the team. Kessler and what for Giddey? What would it take? That's the dream.

And if we go the nuclear option with Lauri, it's Giddey, our pick back, and how much more? He's on our timeline and fills a huge need, but would also be similar to the Mitchell trade where the players I want to see play together are being traded for one another.

I am very open to whatever happens, but if Giddey is actually somewhat available he should be a massive target for the Jazz regardless.

I’m a little wishy washy on Giddey. Sometimes he looks amazing and sometimes he’s Timothe Horton-Tucker. But he’s definitely a good prize in addition to picks.

OTOH, I don’t think there’s a more perfect player for OKC than Lauri.

For sure… I wait and see unless OKC/NOP/BKN comes calling with a 40-50% overpay.

I just wouldn't touch players who can't shoot. Jazz need shooting. If Walker is the future, you got to surround him with spacing so he isn't a negative on offense.

I know it doesn’t mean all that much but ESPN analysts had them ranked one spot away from each other on the top-25 under 25. I would be willing to do Kessler and a protected pick maybe? Maybe make the Lakers 1st top-10 or lottery protected?

A lot more… I want the Houston and Clips picks on top of Giddey and our pick back.
