Bunch of over emotional women in this fan base! Free agents already don't want to play in Utah and the dumb fans give them even more reason not too. The good Deron did here far outweight the bad.
This is about the dumbest thing written here. IF the free agent did come to Utah they would no longer get boo'd, they would be getting the cheers. And besides every player in the NBA knows that Utah has one of the best fan bases in all of professional sports. We are some of the most loyal fans to our TEAM. If you honestly think that a player would not come to Utah soley based on the fact that they got boo'd when they were here playing for an opponent, they you sir are lacking major critial thinking skills. Almost every player that has come and played a game here and had to deal with the crowd has mentioned that Utah has the best home court advantage, that the fans are some of the most basketball smart people out there, that we are passionate and very supportive of our team. It would seem to me that most of them respect our fan base, and would love to play for a group of fans like what we have here. There are thousands of quotes out there, hundreds of blog posts, and more.
As for Deron, I for one had first hand knowledge about how moody, grouchy, and prissy he was in the 18 months leading up to Sloan's retirement and Deron's subsequent trade. He started out as representative of what we wanted for our franchise, but by the end, he had gotten some poison into his head about how HE was the superstar, how HE was the reason the team succeeded, and how HE was untouchable. For those of us who were in the know, we had a little joke that KOC's office door had the title "Kevin O'Connor, General Manager, Will do anything to keep Deron Happy". There were many occasions where Deron had indicated he was not happy, one such was when Ronnie Brewer was traded. Ronnie was one of Deron's best friends. The fact that he was traded prompted the "That's why I only signed a 3 year deal" comment. It was not that Ronnie was a superior basketball player, or anthing like that, it was that Ronnie was Deron's friend. Here is also a little food for thought...
Deron knew that we were in financially tough situations with AK's contract, and with all the other deals that we had. Yet he still signed for the max money. He certainly could have taken less money and then told the Jazz to get some additional talent with the money, and they would have been able to do that. But no, that is not what happened. Deron took the money, then whined constantly after that, pitching a fit about the team having to move players to save other money, and not being able to afford talent. Think about that for a while. Back when Stockton played, he never worried about the money, and I would doubt that he ever had a max dollar contract. Stockton would go into Larry's office, tell him to pay him what he thought was fair, and that he just wanted to play basketball. Yes I am aware there will never be another person like him, but lets even take Nash, a current player into account. Even though he is getting pretty good money, he told the fans, the owners, the managers, and all, that he wanted to finish his career with the suns, that he wanted to retire there. I am certain Nash is probably not getting max money anymore, and to him that probably isn't the biggest drama in life. Deron on the other hand never would commit to the team like that, he wanted the money, and then wondered why the team was struggling otherwise. I am just saying, that perhaps had Deron taken a little less with that contract at that time, until the AK deal was gone, and some of the other toxic deals settled out, the team might have been able to afford more high end talent. If he wanted to win so bad, he would have taken much less in order to get better players in. Alas that seems to be the story with many NBA players though, beg for as much money as they can, then wonder why their franchise cannot afford to go get someone else to help.
