Potential Trade Targets

They are so effing rudderless. Bouncing back and forth between "win-now" and "save money sell stuff" is a great way to remain mediocre for a decade plus.
They don’t own their pick next year so they really should look to take a step back this year to get the best pick they can.

Hunter has been better before his injury (another theme with him). That wouldn't be any kind of deal breaker for me in a Murray deal. The issue is it complicates a Lauri extension as we would likely be out of any functional space.

Just not sure why they want to move that much salary. I get they got pricey but you need some of those players and it doesn't look like anyone outside of Johnson is ready to step into a much bigger role.

Yeah which is why it makes sense to sell now on Murray before he loses value but taking less value to sell low on Hunter or Capela is weird. I don't think they can open up functional cap space and you need some players. Tear it down to Trae and Johnson and lose some of the draft assets you could have received to get off some meh contracts is just not real helpful. You'd almost be better off just moving Trae and pivoting that way (maybe his value sucks though).

I’d kill to get Hunter but I’m not at the price of taking Murray or Capela
Murray is considered the draw you know that right. If you wanted Hunter they'd happily oblige in a John Collins type of manner I'm guessing.

We were rumored to have liked Hunter in the past.
I mean is the thought that his contract is "under water". I get it with Capela but I think Hunter would still be like neutral salary or close to it. If its seen as negative and we are compensated in the trade as such I think I'm more in.

But this is what I don't get... Hunter and Capela are more beneficial to Trae than the returning value they would get back imo. I'd just move Murray for what I could get and hold on to those guys unless I get a get out of jail free card. If they take back one less first to stuff Capela in the deal I don't think it opens up space... ditto for Hunter. Maybe they can move one in this deal and another later or they move Bogey separately.... but at that point what is left?

I think the ownership is real dumb out there... I think the nepo-baby son has a big voice in the front office and they are going to do dumb stuff... so we should absolutely keep calling them.

Capela only has one more year left on his deal. El oh el if they’re trying to dump that, but never count the teeth of a donated horse.

GSW is sending some of the additional draft compensation to Atlanta. We’ll pick up the balance.

I think the Spurs make a lot of sense as a potential THT destination. They have zero playmaking around Wemby.

"From people I’ve spoken with, the Hawks are asking for two firsts in return for Murray, who would prefer to join a team with a chance to make an immediate playoff run. So far, no one has met their demands." - Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer

I wouldn't want Capela as we have Kessler and Collins. I think the Warriors could actually use him a bit.

I don't think thats an unreasonable price depending on the contracts or pick protections. I think the Nets are a team that should be looking hard at something there. If its Jordan/Ochai/1st that's been my price for us that makes sense. Sounds like they want more but what they want and what they get are likely two different things. Glad we have Hardy and Collins to provide insight if we want.

these are the decisions that are the hardest to weigh. Everyone is rolling and you hate to disrupt but you do need to swap out good for great where you can.

If the Hawks want two firsts for Murray but will take one away if they include Capela something like this would work:

Clarkson/THT/2025 1st for Murray/Capela

THT is expiring and Clarkson’s annual salary goes down almost 10M next year so they would be getting a lot of salary relief. They also don’t own their pick in 2025 so that is the year they likely would want.

I’m with HH though I wouldn’t want Capela… not sure if he could get spun off in a separate deal but I think this deal makes a lot of sense.

I'm not against trading for Murray, but it seems as though there is an actual bidding war there and he won't come cheap. If Murray's market is hot and Lavine's is super cold, I'd rather just wait it out for Lavine in the summer. I think they are similar level of players.

If THT is moved my guess is its something where we take on a bigger expiring and get a second. I doubt anyone is after THT the player but only takes one team I suppose. I could also see us doing the inverse of that deal where we save a few dollars and in that case maybe someone like THT enough to take on a few extra bucks in salary.

I could also see a reluctant buyout coming if we don't find anything. While he helps our depth if he is super unhappy its the old favor to the agent thing. Would like realize a bit of savings in the buyout.

The THT contract is why you go collect a few seconds... its conceivable to get a guy like Tyus Jones for THT and some seconds if you wanted a small upgrade.

My prediction is some sort of Nets/Hawks/3rd team type of deal where Murray ends up with the Nets and DFS or Cam Johnson ends up with the Hawks or a third team if DFS is too old for the Hawks. Add picks and contracts to flavor here and there.

THT to the Spurs for McDermott and a second
