Off-Season Rumblings

I really hope these rumors are just throwing the Jazz in there for fun and we haven't actually expressed real interest in most of these guys. My faith in this FO is super low right now.
These next few weeks can't come soon enough so that we hopefully have a good idea of what direction we are heading.

**** that
He was insanely bad on the playoffs this year. Total garbage.

9.0 points per game in 36.4 minutes per game. And it's not like you aquire Harris to be a defensive stopper. Scoring is kind of supposed to be his thing.
That makes Kessler look like a scorer.

And he is 31 years old. And he made 39.2 million dollars last year to do nothing in the playoffs.

Tobias would be the perfect "meh" cherry on top of the "meh" sundae that is this team. I think he likely is better on his next team but what are we even doing here.

I think we end up on every "interested" list and I don't think we should worry too much unless someone like @Tony Jones says it. Next week is our first real indicator on where this thing is headed right now. I honestly think the FO isn't quite sure what they will do which is good and bad.

Hell no for Tobias Harris, I simply don't want to deal with that. I can understand a playoff team pursuing him, but he sucks in the playoffs though. But for a young team like the Jazz, why?

Always been a huge Harris fan and think he has been under utilized his entire career. Might be a pendulum swing effect where he gets way undervalued. He can do a lot of stuff Hardy wanted Collins to do as a PF within the offense we were running last year.

When you hear a leaked rumor, ask yourself who it benefits. The Jazz get no benefit from leaking that they are in pursuit of Bridges, Harris, or Levine. Those players' agents benefit from creating competition for the player out of thin air. I don't believe that any talks have been engaged on with any of these players. Jazz are being floated because they are one of the few teams with cap space. If the Jazz were actually interested in these players, they would wait it out then pounce. If the Jazz called Chicago, they were not looking for Levine.

It was leaked last year that the Jazz were interested in Collins.

It was also leaked that the Jazz were going to give up draft considerations for Collins. The difference was that Collins made some sense. A risk certainly, but he was young, probably undervalued, and a pretty decent cultural fit. At the worst he was plausible trade ballast (which is exactly how he is being viewed in these deals.)

On the other hand, do you find it believable that the Jazz would go out and target the expensive, oft injured, arch enemy of their star player? Especially when we have Sexton who fits the same archetype at a fraction of the cost and none of the baggage.

Gotta say though, a lot of these “rumors” sure feel like: “Jazz have cap space and assets. Maybe they’ll want our junk players so it frees our team up to go after real stars.” My hope is the Jazz just wait until THOSE players hit the market and get in on that bidding war.

If Philly does an Ingram deal I could see a three way where we send Sexton and Kessler to NOP and come away with the picks Philly would have sent to NO in the deal. They own the Clips pick in 2028 unprotected and 16 this year. Some swaps of 29/32 go to NOP and maybe they send 21 our way as well. Would save them 15M and address a couple needs. Philly likely on plan B,C,D right now.

Clarkson/Kessler 29/32 for Kennard/Zhaire 9. Drops them under the tax without losing Kennard for nothing. They could also move him separately and do away with the JC portion... not a deal killer for either. They are right at the tax and this would address center while dropping them enough to make salary make sense. Could also straight waive Kennard.

I definitely think they would leave the JC/Kennard part out….but yeah. MEM is a natural fit for Kessler.
