Yeah, drafts are tough cookies. 30% of the No. 5 picks, 33.3% of the No. 9 picks, and 26.7% of the No.10 picks have become All-Stars between 1989-2019.Not necessarily. Maybe you get a better player at 5th than 9th or 10th or maybe you get the better player at 9th or 10th than 5th. Either way you definitely have a worse team if you are picking 5th than if you are picking 10th and therefore need more to be a contender.
DA got very lucky it rolled that way in Boston. No plan is iron clad and you have to have flexibility but pure opportunism with no plan is not a good thing IMO.I've said this before but I really think DA is pretty blasé in his approach because historically he's been able to tinker around until things fall from the sky or create a perfect storm to swoop in (twice) and he hasn't felt the need to be invested in to what he feels are small potatoes. I'm just not sure that strategy is the right approach here and now.
Yeah and maybe this is where some of the back and forth between tanking and trying to be more competitive comes from. Ryan gets hopeful and by midseason the writing is on the wall. I think DA has as much power as just about any GM in the league so I think if he wanted to convince Ryan he could.Tanking is the kind of plan that ownership needs to co-sign or it wont happen.
Ryan Smith doesnt strike me as a guy who would do that if there were other options. Feels more like a can-do optimist who values the quality of the product too much.
Oh it will happen... it has happened 2 years in a row now. It just doens't happen in July... it happens in February.I only hate tank talk because we know it's not happening. And since we're not tanking, every single discussion turns into "I'd rather tank instead". OK cool, we get it. Be real bad, draft real good player, be good team....yada yada yada. It's an irrelevant topic because it won't happen. I wish there could be one thread for all complaining about "we should tank" instead of every single thread devolving into this.

Please no for the jazzIMO the most likely trade for Ingram would be to CLE, centered around Allen for Ingram. I think the Jazz version of the trade would be something like Sexton+Kessler for Ingram.
I actually think it will be around Garland. Just reading the tea leaves a bit.IMO the most likely trade for Ingram would be to CLE, centered around Allen for Ingram. I think the Jazz version of the trade would be something like Sexton+Kessler for Ingram.

Agreed I don't want to be the team to give him his next contract. He's eligible for 4/$208 mil extension and that just seems insane. Please no for the jazz

Fully agree it wasn't the design. But that's definitely what happened. But I personally think Clarkson is a solid dude so it's hard to argue with the choice.Yeah maybe. I just think even a ****** vet having a bad year is so much more competent but if the case is he held back Sexton (key was bad) then maybe. I don't think that was DA's design of course.
