World travel

Where were you at? I keep coming across this picture of the Al Bustan Palace.

I googled this place and it pulls up Ritz Carlton, which is very close to where I was staying at in muscat. This looks a lot greener than anything I saw though. This is my hotel view.

Anyone been to Nepal? It looks like I a moving there next. I dont know much about it, but I think ill enjoy it.
No, but I know a guy who went there to see an old girlfriend who owned a bar there.

Place was run down, entertainment was seeing who could drink the most without passing out. Snow everywhere.

On his first night there a bunch of thugs broke in, attempting to steal some jewelry from the guy's ex and assault her with a fire poker. A gunfight ensued, and the bar ended up burning down, forcing my friend to take his ex along with him on his travels.

Good luck, and hope you don't have an ex-girlfriend there...

Okay! Sounds like I'll like it even more!

Just did a bunch of trips. A few cool places but mostly highlighted by going back to China.

Next month I'm doing a big week long safari in Tanzania with friends flying in from a few countries. I'm pretty excited, although a few rowdy drinking friends are coming and expecting me to keep up. That could be trouble, I'm getting old. Plus I want to enjoy the views and experience more than partying this trip.

Oddly I bid on a trip not expecting to get but did. I'm going to Jordan next month as well. I never expected to go there. But after some research I'm looking forward to it! After going to Oman and it being much better than expected I have some hopes for this trip. I have always wanted to go to the dead sea and this is probably the only side place safe to visit. Plus Ammon has some pretty cool historical sites and I'm staying at some nice hotels.

So, are you independently wealthy or do you occasionally, you know, work or anything?

Haha! I work in China with the Olympics teams and other sports groups still. My wife also works, which is what brought us to Ethiopia. We both travel for work a little bit and always take time to vacation each trip. Plus the big one is Ethiopia is very close to many places and has a very well connected airline with cheap flights. Oh and the whole no kids helps a lot.

The thugs weren't German were they? Those bastards....

Never paid attention at all to my sky miles but recently my wife blew my mind when she told me she is getting close to million-miler status(875,000) with Delta. We guesstimated that she's probably at around 1-1.2 million including other airlines, which means I'm probably at around 1.2-1.5 million. Trying to wrap my head around it, had no idea.

You guys flying weekly pretty much then? Even the couple of years I worked in Germany I didn't hit million miles and I felt like I was doing nothing but flying across the ocean and around Europe. That's crazy!

My wife flies close to weekly, sometimes more than one trip in a week. I used to fly a lot for work throughout my 20's, 30's, 40's and grew up traveling quite a bit to Europe mostly but other locations too. We also travel a lot for vacations and workcations. And I work for Delta so have been traveling a ton over the last three years. In all that time I never even fathomed 1 million miles but I'm the type that never checks my mileage on a bike or motorcycle ride or anything so it surprised me.

Will that come with any rewards or percs?

Just million miler baggage tags and some Delta gifts. The number one guy for Delta has flown over 14 million miles. He must have a lot of Delta gifts.
