Jazz Sign Patty Mills

Feels a bit weird adding that another guard to a roster that already has that many and seemed to be looking to shed one or two of them. Either way, we're here for the tanking and he's still a good veteran who not only might contribute with his leadership, but one who also knows a thing or two about shooting.

Collier right now is our backup point guard. There is a good chance he's not ready for that yet.

Solid vet who getting that Udonis Haslem checks now.

Maybe this is a sign that Sextons on the way out.

You're correct. Hardy has half a dozen veterans aged 27+ to help him, so if they want that high pick... With the fact of knowing how Jazz is a strong home team, and bottom five teams in east are quite meh, I'd bet over on that Vegas o/u 28,5 I saw few weeks ago. I predict 31-33 win season, accounting the trade deadline tank moves on it. It can be higher if some of the 1-2 year players gonna be advancing more we expect.

But if Hardy let's them rookies play through mistakes, at least Jazz should secure the pick not going for Thunder
Honestly, as long we be starting Collins - which I believe won't change this season because of his still sizeable contract (next we should trade, dump, or just waive him), what happened to him when he no longer was treated as a centerpiece in Atlanta, and what benching him (even more for kids or minimum salary level players) would mean to the FO decision of trading for him - either through him playing as PF or C (tho I believe he'll play more as a C, and I that being the case because his whole NBA career he's been better as a C, not a PF), we'll have a decently high scoring collective attack that doesn't match the consistency and star power of most franchises, thus still losing a ton, even more being at the western conference (only the Blazers should be as bad or worse in the same conference).

If we need to go hard on the tanking just tell Lauri to go spend time with his kids and call It a day,

This is not a sign of anything roster or depth wise. This is simply a sign of having lots of young players and needing an adult in the room. Patty has always been a vibes/locker room god.

Before this signing I wasn't expecting to Collier finding non garbage time minutes at all between Sexton, George, Clarkson and Sensabaugh, as long as all of these were available. I'd be sure that Sexton would start, not so sure about Clarkson or George, but that George would be riding as main PG when Sexton was on the bench.

Now I see even more time at G-league for Collier in his rookie year, and I don't think It's a bad thing. As far as I know (as little as I know) he needs working and that's a reason he fell as much as he did in the whole draft process

Considering what we saw in the past, the most I'd say minutes wise is that Patty could be there as an extra guy with a different playstyle to Clarkson to be playing out there If George isn't earning his minutes on the court.

Maybe. Who knows. Not so sure what a Sexton trade would mean to our efforts to get to the salary floor of these later signings

Sexton is too damn good. Could we trade him for the corpse of Jinglin Joe and have fun driving the tank off the cliff?

A+ locker room and character guy. My only concern is that we no longer have room for a revolving door of G-League prospects to cycle through. I’d probably cut one of Svi/Juzang/Eubanks before Patty though.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure the Jazz are going to try to start out slow this year, and still do the “trading deadline firesale” that they’ve had the past two seasons. Sexton and probably Clarkson get dealt this year imo. Maybe a surprise guy like Svi or Eubanks if they show out in limited roles on team friendly contracts.

Eh, there really isn’t a fire sale to be had. Most of the vets are gone. Sexton/Kessler have value, but they can obviously be part of the future as well. Collins and Clarkson have no market.

I don’t consider this roster to be similar to previous rosters on opening day despite people hammering that point for some reason.

I don't think Clarkson or Sensabaugh would get time at the 1. The way I was envisioning the rotation was Sexton and Keyonte starting, then Clarkson comes off the bench, and then Collier gets some time at the 1 for the time that both Keyonte and Sexton are on the bench together. I think Sensabaugh would get time at the 2/3, but honestly I'm not a huge fan and so I probably haven't been factoring him in to the rotation much at all.

And no one thought Simone was going to be a trade deadline player last off-season... And again, a lot of people on the forum thought KO/Ochai were legitimately bad during the season and no one saw the Jazz being able to get a first rounder for them.

The Jazz will try to do a fire sale of the vets they don't view as long term pieces. That's going to happen. Will they be successful? Remains to be seen. A lot can happen. An expiring piece on a contender might have a season ending injury and suddenly someone is interested in Jordan Clarkson if he's having a solid season.

Patty is going to play some amount of minutes over Collier and there will certainly be a lot of complaining about. Heck, maybe I’ll do it….but realistically that’s probably just a matter of entertainment. I don’t think it’s necessarily better for development to throw Collier into the fire and at the end of the day his development isn’t going to be decided by playing a few hundred more minutes his rookie year….especially when he’s going to be getting much more minutes in the GLeague.

OK….if something unlikely happens things will change. Im positive the Jazz will fire sale if they have fireside assets, but as it stands right now, they don’t have those guys. I’m not comparing rosters on the basis on unpredictable things that may or may not happen. I’m comparing the rosters based on what we know. The opening day rosters of previous years had way more established vets that were obvious fire sale candidates.

Also, no revisionist history about KO getting a first round pick. “No one saw the Jazz able to get a first rounder”. Come on man, I don’t know why you make this stuff up.
