What's new

Game Thread Oct 12, 2024 06:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ San Antonio Spurs (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-12-24

I wasn't impressed with Castle: he does not have much right now besides his decent defense. Also, I wasn't impressed with Sexton: Colin was supposed to be our best by far player with Lauri and Kessler out and he often looked overwhelmed in that role.
He's playing with all rookie contract players...

I'll be honest, I missed this one to watch the Utah Hockey Clubmen (great game, btw).

Looking at boxscores - good to see Cody Williams had a solid game.

Svi with 13 shots in 16 minutes. When he's in he's aggressively asking for the ball and putting shots up. A lot of our young guys are going to be happy to defer to the Vet, which is not what our front office and coaching staff want. Makes sense why we hadn't seen Svi until tonight.

Svi thinks he is the prime Klay Thompson. And, unlike Klay, he gives you very little besides his chucking.

Luka Samanic 2.0.

We lost to a team that also didn't play their best players. This was like watching the Austin Spurs vs the Salt Lake Stars.
Not comparable really. We sat out our best player and 4 of our top 5 scorers from last season, all of whom are 25+ minute guys. They sat out Wemby and back of the rotation guy in Branham. Their other regular rotation guys played heavy minutes.

I think this game sort of reinforces the narrative that Collin Sexton is not a lead PG. He turned it over a lot more than he usually does, and part of that may have been him trying to read the court instead of just locking in on his own game.

I think he has progressed in that area, but at the end of the day he is a microwave scorer who can give you 5 assists per game if he gets enough clean kickout looks etc.

I really liked what I saw from Cody and Flip offensively in this game, even though Flip missed all his 3 pointers.

Flip is such a smart player and has the ability to naturally make the correct reads and decissions. You rarely see him drive into trouble but he still does attack the lane if there's anything there.

It’s not a problem if you're pro tank.
Both being out means more minutes to Sexton and Clarkson. Maybe gets Juzang/Mills into the rotation.

Its not quite clear if that helps the tank. Keyonte is not yet as good as Sexton and Clarkson and Collier is even worse.

Our best hope lies in Preston getting big minutes.

I already know who Danny will trade mid-season when we are exceeding expectations and need to lose some games.

Lol at the sexton comment.
24 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds on great efficiency.

Some people just can't get over their sexton hate. Sexton WAS our best player by far.

There is a guy named Devin Vassel that is pretty damn good.

Last season so many people hated on him. He's a guard who shoots close to 50%. I don't know else what people want him to do. lol He's one of our most consistent players on a sweet contract and he hasn't been an ******* teammate. Cavs trades have been amazing for us.
