2024-2025 Tank Race

The Jazz have these occasional games, like against the Knicks and against the Blazers, where they look like a competent team. Then somehow Will Hardy reels them back in. It's impressive.

It's hard to believe that a team like the Hornets are only two games behind the Pacers. The east is so trash.

If that poverty franchise of the New Orleans Hornicans gets the number 1 or 2 pick after Paul, AD, and Zion I’m going to scream.

Jazz lose by 44
POR loses by 9
POR loses by 5
WAS loses by 28
NOP wins by 4
BKN loses by 5
PHI wins / CHI loses by 8
Portland lost two games? JK. I believe this is the Horncats winning by 4 and NOP losing by 5.

TOR loses by 5

They were up late in the 4th and still lost. It seems like Toronto has a ton of almost wins.

Cody Williams is the ultimate tank card. If you play him 30 minutes in a game, you are going to lose. Hell if you play him 20 minutes, you are probably going to lose.

I caught some of the Toronto and NOLA games and was holding out hope. If NOLA keeps playing CJ/Murray/Herb/Trey they should start getting some wins here and there

I'm not sure. CJ went off and they still lost to a mid Kings team. They are far enough out of the playoff race that I think they will be fully onboard the tank train.

Kings are a good team, not mid. They are just in the West. NOLA should win games against the other bad teams.

By mid, I mean middle 10 teams. I think it would be hard to argue they are better than that. By my count they are at best the 13th best team, and at worst the 18th best team. There are 30 teams in the NBA. They are almost exactly the most mid team in the NBA.

Your point stands though. NOLA should win some games against bad teams. I think we will win games against bad teams as well though. I think we are currently on similar levels (fully healthy Jazz vs NOLA without Ingram or Zion).

Gotcha, I just think they are a quality team regardless of their current record. They have a +3.2 net rating, which is a better indicator of quality than record at this point in this season. I believe they have the 13th best net rating. And they will probably improve as they continue to incorporate DDR. Or at least I hope they do because it would help keep the Wolves in the lottery.

At some point it will be Cody Williams SZN. I think they tried to force it early and give him the Keyonte privilege, but he wasn't good enough. Still, year after year Hardy shows he's complicit with the tank and will pull the plug/play the young guys. It might comes sooner than Trade Deadline this year.

Exactly what I been saying. Herb/Trey/DJM/CJ that much better than Lauri/Sexton/Collins/Kessler? They also have no home court advantage (dead in there). BI ain't giving them anything unless they extend him. Zion? if they are out of the play in race why risk Zion's health? This kind of is their team or as good as they will get. At some point they pull the plug - if they haven't already.

They also will make a money saving move at some point. Likely happens with the BI deal but they are 1.4M over the tax and can get 19M in revenue by cutting some salary.

I think its 50/50 basically on if we out tank them.

IDK if that 4 man group is better than the Jazz 4-man group, but they also have less negative players playing (or at least they arent trying to develop rookies/2nd year players as PG's) and they will play Zion whenever Zion can comeback because they will want him to prove he can play games and be healthy so he has some trade value heading into the next season. And Alverado should be back around the start of January.

I think NOP is a big threat….but they need the same level of injuries as they’ve had thus far just to compete with us. I think the records right now do a good job of illustrating that.

Reasonably healthy Jazz are at a similar level as catastrophically injured Pelicans. Pelicans can’t really get much worse….we know what happens later on in the season with Jazz.

Any team can sit any team of course….so that’s a wash across all teams and I have full belief the Jazz will do so + the Jazz have the biggest tank waiting in the wings.
