Mock Draft Exercise #1 - Pre-NCAA Tournament

Beringer is bigger and more athletic. 48 minutes of vertical lob threat/rim protection. Worked for Dallas.

I like Sorber, but I like Beringer's upside more.
I've never seen the guy play... but I just have a hard time seeing a guy named Joan being a good basketball player.

I don't know, maybe. He averages like 4 points per game. Beringer would be amazing as stash candidate because we don't have roster spots and he's going to need some time for his body to be ready for any center minutes in the NBA. I don't think first round guys ever really get stashed.

His name is Joan

Not like the Jazz are trying to win next year. Bring him in and let him study a year under Kessler.

Sorber is a guaranteed backup center in the league, in my opinion. If you are taking a swing at upside then draft Egor there in my opinion.

Nahhhh. Taking a safe upside swing. It's not like I'm asking Joan to develop non-existing skills like you would be with Egor.

And the Jazz's defense is ***. The easiest way to fix that is adding another (potentially) high level rim protector.

It feels like he's at least 2-3 years away, but maybe I'm too down on his strength.
Possibly, but the Jazz are also 1-2 years away if we are being optimistic, so it lines up. Allows the Jazz to play a consistent style with Walker on or off the court.

From what I heard on Locke today, it sounds like Utah is kind of resigning themselves to the idea of Flip being a 4 since he probably cant survive defensively as a 5.

Joan Beringer is just a puzzling prospect for me. If he was an extraordinary athlete or had amazing physical tools I could see it, but he really doesn't pop off the screen. Regardless, you're taking a guy incredibly far away with the hopes of him being a role player. Seems like a longshot for not a huge reward.
