Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Long thread on Noah Penda, tough defensive wing with enough offense to contribute a bit.

I don't have a super strong opinion on Penda because I've only watched the 5 or 6 Cashiggy videos on him, but from what I've seen I haven't been impressed. I don't think his defense translates to the NBA because I don't think he's athletic enough to keep up with NBA guys.

He's OK, but not in my top 30 currently.

Video is split up into sections:

0:14 Shot Attempts
34:26 Rebounds
55:15 Defense

Back half of the video looks to be all defense. Someone can correct if I missed a section or 2.

His offensive footwork looks good (if a bit awkward on occasion) even if the finish is sometimes suspect. I like the willingness to try some of those moves.
Would like to think that it will look smoother and that he will finish better with more experience.
Thank you, very much appreciated. I will definitely be skipping the majority of the 20 minutes of rebounds, lol.

I was able to watch a little of the defensive highlights and while I'm very intrigued I have to say it's difficult to get a good read because the level of competition is so low. He definitely sticks out in a good way for being able to move at his size.

I think Joan Beringer is probably gone by pick 25 (I think he could have a meteoric rise), but if he’s still on the board then, I’d be happy to trade Sexton to Orlando for that pick.

I will just generally add that Kessler is just a little too basic for my tastes in the longterm. Kinda scared he might crumple in the playoffs and he has got to be at peak value (not ability) right now.

Nothing new here on Tre Johnson, but I have to admit, seeing it all together makes me slightly lower on him:

the stage of the draft where we start to overthink everything. at the end of the day he averaged 20 ppg on 56% TS in the toughest conference in cbb on a team that had nobody else who could score so was the sole focus of every SEC defense he played against.

I get the idea behind “don’t overthink it”….but I also don’t think it should really be used as a shield for everything. It doesn’t take much thinking to see flaws with Tre. If you value things besides shooting/scoring, they will be front and center.

Look, Tre has a good argument for 3rd best prospect in the draft. I think he's really good. If the Jazz draft him, I'll hope for the best on the things he doesn't project to be good at.

To be an NBA ball handler, I’d say being able to touch inside the paint and get the defense in rotation is just as important and maybe even more important than shooting. It’s what got undervalued with Collier. He’s not as good at finishing, but I think Fears is right there with Harper in terms of getting to the basket. Fears should have been in high school this year….I see why people have him at 5 even if I’m not there yet.

This highlight video popped up in my YouTube videos feed. It looks like the video is new, but these games were from a few months ago.

His slow shot mechanics scare me a little. And he shot four jumpshots in that entire highlight video. He is intriguing though.

I’ve been wondering if he should be the second guy off the board. I mean he’s such an elite shot maker. I mean he could low key be the second best player in the draft.
2 more weeks until we know if we get Flagg.
I feel like the Jazz are due for a win in the lottery

I still maintain that Fears and Traore are similar as draft prospects. Fears projects to be a much better shooter and Traore projects to be a much better passer. They both are able to get wherever they want on the court and both have similar defensive concerns. They were both asked to do too much on their respective teams and had inconsistent production as a result. They are also pretty close in age (4 months apart). The differences in production can easily be explained by the differences in leagues.

Also: *gasp* all he can do is shoot the lights out running off screens, really good off the dribble, and shows promise in isolation! And shows some nice ability as a playmaker for others!

The point that his player archetype is volatile is a fine one but the kid is good.

For how closely I've followed Traore, people might think I'm a superfan/homer, but I actually don't like Traore for the Jazz. I think he is similar as a prospect to Collier, but Collier plays with more energy.
