The Jazz Have to Make a Hard Push for Rondo

This should be the Jazz front office's primary focus. Just read an article by Bill Simmons, he says that Rondo badly needs a change of scenery. Today he put up 32, 15 & 10 for a team which he's apparently not interested in playing for. He was All-Defensive NBA 1st Team in 2010 & 2011. He JUST turned 26 years old, has 4 years/$40M left on his contract. I say acquire him at all costs. Anything not involving Burks, Favors, or Kanter should be on the table in my opinion. I like Hayward, but if he seals the deal to land Rondo, you have to trade him. I think the Celtics would pull the trigger on this deal...

Celtics send: Rajon Rondo & Jermaine O'Neal
Jazz send: Al Jefferson & Gordon Hayward

I would love to keep Hayward and send them either Josh Howard or Raja Bell instead, but it's highly unlikely that's enough to land a point guard of his caliber. Supposedly Rondo has attitude problems, but I think the reward far outweighs the risk. The fans will absolutely LOVE him in Salt Lake, I think he makes us an instant contender in the West.

What do you guys think? Would you pull the trigger on this deal?

No worse than Devin Harris or Earl Watson. HUGE upgrade in every other area. I get it though, he struggles to make 15 footers, smart teams just play off him. Personally, I can live with the subpar shooting to get a rich man's Earl Watson.

Significanlty worse, actually. And they're not in the longterm plans anyway.

Rondo without floor-spacing and not that good of players could be disastrous. On a team with floor-spacing and good players he looks really nice, though.

The guy is averaging 9.5asts per game and shooting 49% from the field. Only ONE Jazz player shoots a better %.

i like the idea, but why would Boston do this trade?

They literally have no inside presence. Since Al has become better lately about passing out of double teams, he could get decent looks for Allen, Pierce, etc. Celtics have much better mid & long range shooters than we do. I think he'd fit that team well. Hayward is obvious, solid young player, depth. Avery Bradley is a nasty defensive point guard, they won't miss a beat defensively with Rondo gone.

Avery BRadley. He was supposedly playing better defense than Rondo when Rondo went down and Bradley started.

I would not trade Hayward for Rondo. Sounds to me like Rondo has attitude problems or something if he "needs a change of scenery".
Hayward's playing elite defense right now and I like his leadersihp potential.
Hayward's a 6'9'' gaurd. There's not many of those that come to mind to me.

False. From what I saw, Avery was not doing anything better than Rondo .. though I've been wrong before. Let's get Rondo .. Avery is better anyway!!!

Take a puff of your asthma meds, weezur, the lack of oxygen has your mind playing tricks on ya.

there is no way they gonna trade Rondo unless they gonna get something really big like dwight howard.

They are open to trading him for a 31 year old Pau Gasol who makes almost $4 million more than Al Jefferson. While that's not a problem right now, paying him $20M at 34 years old is going to be painful. At that same time, they could be paying a 30 year old Al Jefferson substantially less, and also get (presumably, I can't speak for KOC) a young piece from the Jazz. I think the deal is right there, I'm sure the Celtics would strongly consider my original proposal.

For me that's a legitimate question as well. Rondo is better than Hayward right now, but I don't know about in even two years if this holds true. Rondo has tremendous advantages and glaring flaws. Will Rondo average as many assists without Pierce and Allen on the perimeter? He will have more options for the pick-and-roll, to be sure. You have to take into consideration that he has two of the best shooters in the NBA as complements, one being arguably the best in the history of the NBA. I would love him on the Jazz, but for what price and with what other team members?
