Players off the books...

I know this has probably been talked about. But I was wondering if anyone can share their knowledge on who will be off the books this coming summer? If I remember correctly, isn't CJ a free agent? I too am not too happy that the Jazz managment didn't make a move before the deadline. But if they are targeting a free agent this summer it may have been good not to take on another contract. Opinions?

Man they will have a lot of expiring contracts in 2012/2013. Any big free agents for that year (besides D Howard)?

CJ is done after this year, and Raja after next, but I'm not sure if that is a team/player option year. He actually makes MORE money next year than this year. Can't remember any others at this point, but I know there are more.

Why does 13/14 make me excited?

No AJ
No Harris
No Sap
No CJ
no Howard

Out of the above, I only want Sap and even then I'm a little reluctant because he'll take playing time away from Favors/Kanter.

Locke's been saying that on 2013/2014 something happens with the new CBA that sucks and that it makes KOC look smart for not having contracts those yaers......don't remember what it was exactly but KOC is smart for purposely making that happen.

Only if you think Favors and Kanter can or should play 48 minutes a game.

He deserves some credit for assembling contracts that all expired that year, but there was no way he could know how the financials and penalties of the new CBA would work out. That's just dumb luck. However, even without that, if you're going to get under the cap, you need to get DEEP below the cap so you can actually go out and throw money around.

This of course could backfire if the Jazz don't get anyone in free agency and they stay the course.

That's true....maybe Locke's just in love with KOC.
Or maybe that's the season that KOC thinks the young 4 will be starters...?

Teams have to spend 90% of the salary cap or are penalized the difference between their salary paid for the year and 90% of the cap for that year (the money goes to the NBPA for distribution). So they'll have to spend money one way or another. It'll be very interesting to see how this plays out.

you would like to think that a core of Hayward, Favors, Kanter, and Burks could lure at least one big-time free agent, if not two. If that's naive, whatevar.

The obsession with CP3 and D12 should help us, since I doubt we'll pursue either player.

Make no mistake, the Jazz will tender them offers if they stay the course, but I don't think the Jazz will be planning on that to work, necessarily.

But if it did...

...

The penalties become more severe for exceeding the tax threshold. True, KOC didn't know the where and when, but it has been a concerted effort on the part of O'Connor to get out from under the big contracts. A big part of that is only taking back contracts that have 3-4 years remaining in a trade. And part is "luck" as you say. With Harris, we didn't have much choice. Salaries had to match, so Harris needed to be part of the deal. If he had been an expiring, we would have taken it. If he had 5 more years, likely the same.

But don't forget the many rumored deals that were turned down, like taking on Rip's contract, etc. KOC has held steadfast to the "no trade is better than a bad trade" philosophy. I hate Raja still being here and I would have liked to have seen CJ dealt. By all accounts, Howard has been a great guy in the locker room, so I'm ok with him - despite his low FG%. Same with Watson. I think Eark is signed through next year as well.

Looks like Jazz can add the draft picks, use all of the Memo TPE and fill the rest of the roster with vets at the minimum and still be under the tax threshold. That's good news. Not that I wanted Gerald Wallace, but maybe the Jazz can do a similar deal for a team wanting to rebuild. We wouldn't even need to send expirings back...just use the TPE and a first depending on who that player might be.

we jazz fanz are not obbsessed with cp3,,we are obsessed with Burksssss..CP is limited to 3,,on the other hand, burks is like MSN,every year comes upgraded version(i believe its 9.0 now),,give it 5 years Burks 5.0>CP3:cool:

Well, since NJ can't get Howard, maybe Deron repents and the prodigal son returns home. Now wouldn't THAT be quite the line-up!
