What's new

Jazz at Celts: 3/28/12--5:30PM MT

I felt like a little more burks and a little less miles + alot more tinsley and no watson would have been the ingredients for a victory tonight.
But corbin learned from sloan: no matter who is playing good or bad just keep with your rotations and everything will be alright

No kidding. I love Earl but man he needs to take his place next Evans. He has lost a step or two and other teams are making us pay.

It's amazing the things KG gets away with. Is this the NBA's love for Boston at hand? What is this?? How does this keep happening? The dude is a serious headcase. Should be fined hard for every time he does stuff like that.

I watched the game the 2nd broadcast.

There were a number of things that stood out to me.

I cannot decide which team made the most stupid plays. I know posters here will be all over me over Watson but the C's made some really dumb plays. Rondo walking the dog FTL was immeasurably stupid.

I have been vocal about bringing him in but wow. Rondo has some making up to do with me.

CJ quietly had a nice game.

Al was Unfortunately the focus of this game. In the beginning Al was a little too into it, then he was out of it, then in the crunch he was too late. I love Al. This is the kind of game he can learn how to win in the playoffs. Thanks KG and the Cs. Those guys were throwing elbows and cheating like mad. This is the kind of experience our players need to find out what happens in a for real playoff experience.

I can say with confidence Utah wins this game if they play it twice.

Edit: Watson was terrible in the 1st but was fantastic on D later. This guy is going to be our bench Pg.

It's nice to see someone else picking up Bell's slack.

Easily the highlight was Haywards double block. Re-watching that makes me feel a little better about this game.

Millsap should have come in WAY earlier in the 4th. I think it`s time to focus on a 3 big rotation more. Sorry Kanter, I kindof like your game, but you`re the odd man out.

And of course less Miles of Space, but Corbin is half blind so you can`t ask for everything.

Corbin just doesn`t seem very able to light a fire under players asses.

I love it when Bell doesn`t play.

It was nice they fought back but Millsap with early foul trouble didn't really ever look right and Bass was kicking his trash a lot of the night. Al played horrible first half and respectable second half but KG is KG and hopefully the Jazz learn from this (and the Dirk & Berea incidents) but do it between the lines while the play is going on. Easiest is setting screens down in the paint, like Stock would set extra hard screens/picks with a knee to the thigh or elbow to the ribs on big men. What KG does is after the play during dead ball situations and IMO is borderline edging towards crossing that line. The 2x Al tried to react it played into KG's hand, Al pushed back got a T, Al bodied up KG and he flopped for a foul.

Like others have said it seemed Hayward was the only one to really show up and Burks off the bench was the only bench player that kinda showed up. I kind of understood Watson playing against NJ and could explain away him playing in the first half but after not running the offense and making more mistakes and not pushing the tempo then his defense can offset I was disappointed Tinsley didn't get his 2nd half minutes.

"Rings"?

You mean one ring, when he was traded onto a team with two all-stars, after realizing that he could never lead a team to one himself?

And please tell me: Who from the Spurs is even a quarter as bad as Garnett.

On the Spurs' championship teams? Perhaps you're too young to remember, but the Spurs had a player that played lockdown defense and fit his somewhat "dirty" role perfectly. His name is Bruce Bowen. But I don't blame you for not knowing of this guy, you were probably still in elementary school when the Spurs were winning championships.

Manu, when he plays, is one of the most annoying players in the league. He flops, he hits players in the stomach as they shoot, he kicks his legs out when he shoots, he bumps guys constantly. Unfortunately, he hasn't played significantly in years. Duncan? Just watch him closely...

If Favors threw an elbow into Pierces face after knocking the ball away I would go off about unnessecasry dirty ****. As mentioned there is hard play and banging a guy up and being a **** sucker like Garnett.

I'll admit, I didn't remember his elbow to Millsap's eye. That was lame.

But all the other stuff? Brilliant. He knew how fragile Big Al was. He bumped him right before the FT, he knocked the ball away, elbowed him in the chest when no one was watching... Fantastic!

If you folks don't think that Malone, Stockton, and Hornacek didn't do lil subtle things to get under players' skins then you are really deceived. All the great ones have an edge to them. Dwade, Kobe, Duncan, MJ, Pippen, Shaq, Magic, Bird, Thomas, Stockton, etc. You look at the edge that Barea, Stevensen, and Chandler brought to the Mavs and how much they miss those dudes this year.

KG might have become too edgy. But I'd rather have a player too much like that than our soft as tissue paper players. Him getting into Al's head was both really upsetting for me but also quite hilarious. Because, we ALL knew what he was trying to do. We needed someone like Harpring to knock KG on his *** and remind him that we weren't going to back down.... Even Harpring was laughing about this during the game. He knew exactly what KG was trying to do.

Instead, we let KG have his way.

Big Al needed to stand up for himself. Someone needed to stand up for Big Al. As a team we needed to let KG know that we weren't backing down. We needed to bump him a few times.

Nothing dirty. Nothing that would have resulted in Detroit vs Indiana. But it sure is getting tiresome to see the only players standing up to anyone (DeMarcus Cousins and KG) being Devin Harris and Earl Watson.

The Jazz needed someone that knows how to bump or elbow and the right times and get away with it. Again both times Al did react (push after the elbow and after the shoulder to the face he bumped KG posting up and KG flopped for a foul against Al) and the only people I can think of that may be able to get away with would be Bell or Howard and even then maybe not.

I would love for the Jazz to be a tougher team and hopefully this will be a learning experience for them and they will be in the future as a result. However most of what annoys me and what I noticed annoying the Jazz players came during dead ball situations no during the course of a play and personally I'd rather have the Jazz be tough during plays not after like KG.
That is why KG doesn't exactly have the old school toughness rep he has the paper tiger wannabe tough guy rep cause of when and how he does it.

This is a real good post. I agree.

I don't think Favors is ever going to be that tough inside. He seems too timid. Guys that are just as long or just as athletic tend to get under his skin, like McGee and KG. Favors is dominate when he's going up against stiffs. But if he wants to score against athletic/long defenders, he's gotta become more physical and develop some fakes/post moves. You can't just out jump everyone in this league.

I really don't know why Big Al wasn't able to dish out more damage on KG. I'm not sure why he isn't nearly as physical or as tough as he looks.

I do think Kanter could be that tough guy inside that we need. He picks guys up early on defense, bumps them, and is just real physical in general. He's the kind of guy that others hate to go up against.

Kanter not playing is insane. Do you seriously think we are championship contender this year or something? Kanter needs to play and I would like to see him at leat 15 minutes a game.

That is exactly why he is so effective. He understands being able to fight doesn't matter. He just has to get you in the mindset that you want to fight him. Like I said, I hate it, but it works.

KG is a subject of a lot of frustration with Celtics fans. You want your big guys to take a swing sometimes, but that's the worst possible thing he could do. Calling Charlie V a cancer patient wasn't his best moment and he's constantly talking to himself and raving like a lunatic, but you take the good with the bad. The biggest reason they won a championship is their stifling D and KG (combined with Thibs) were the main reasons for that. He can still bring it these days, he just can't elevate like he used to. Moving him to play more center is the natural progression for his career.

He would be a tremendous investment as a teacher for a team that needs a big to help their young bigs.

I agree with alot of this post..... but come on man. CJ quietly had a nice game? Lol he was horrible.
And dont say "but he played great defense", Boston is 25th in the league offensively. They are not hard to keep from scoring.... CJ sucked.
